Phone calls

Oct 10, 2005 22:32

The phone rang three times before there was the small click on the other line. Instead of someone answering, though, the answering machine came in. "Hey, it's Eddie. You know the drill, I'll call you back."

For a moment, all the words that he had been forming left him, and Michael just sat there, staring at a spot on the table. Sighing wearily, he passed his hand along his face. "Guess who. Listen, I'm... I'm going to be going to New York some time soon. You probably know why I'm calling, Ed, I'm just..." He trailed off for a moment, but instead of finishing the sentence, he shook his head. "I'll call you later."

After he hung up, he put the cell phone down on the table in front of him and stared at it. He was so damn tired, of nightmares, of thoughts, that he just wanted to sleep. Except, now, he couldn't. He'd been trying ever since Logan had fallen asleep, but failed miserably at it. Turning to the window of the kitchen, he tried to think of people he could call. Some came to mind, but it was late - calling someone after 11:30 might alarm them.

Except, if he continued what he was doing, he'd drive himself crazy. Even he knew that. He remembered Heather's and DJ's words before they left, "Call if you need anything," and before he realized what he was doing, he dialed the number. One of them was bound to be awake, and he could only hope that it'd be Heather. He'd rather talk to her, he didn't want to tell DJ... Closing his eyes, he listened to the phone ring, and wishing that he could just hang up and forget about the phone call. Except it was now too late; his number would already be recorded in the caller ID, and it was ringing...

phone calls, heather, problems
