Somehow, what had happened with Cordelia and Orlando had snapped something back into place for Michael. Maybe it was the fact that everything had been so sudden, and he'd seen once more how things can change in a matter of seconds. One would think he would know this by now, but it was one of the many lessons he had yet to really learn.
Whether he wanted to believe it or not, whether he fully realized it or not, he had people who needed him and who he had simply left in the dust. At least that's what it felt like, as he stood outside in the balcony of the apartment, staring at his cell phone. He hadn't checked on Heather, or the kids, since Heather's birthday, and tomorrow would be one of his niece's birthday. For an uncle, for a brother-in-law, he was sure doing a shitty job, he realized. Maybe even as a brother, and a friend. God knew that, as a son, he had already failed that one. He needed to change that, somehow. Maybe not the son part, but the rest... The rest, he had to be better. He just had to.
Taking a quick glance inside the apartment, he made sure the blinds for the balcony were open in case Orlando needed him for something and he'd be able to find him, before he turned back to his cell phone and dialed for Heather's cell phone.
