Now to the theatre we press/Now for the lights and set

This past weekend was sitzprobe for Sorcerer (Bollywood-style), followed by load-in. The latter went remarkable swiftly, especially considering the size of the set (esp. compared to Mikado, which was just three flats in a row on each side, a template archway and gong, and a bit of a floor). The only bit that dragged was waiting for the lights to be rigged and raised (couldn't start building the set until that was done).

Yesterday was our first rehearsal at the Montgomery. Man, this is going to be a great show! We'd heard there was an entr'acte, but to see it executed - just...wow. And no, I'm not spoiling it. You *are* coming to see it, yes?

Dancing on the extension was a little bit tricky (the platforms are raised from the sides of the orchestra pit, but for about half its length there's a gap of a few inches between the riser and the back wall...need to be careful when we spin).

I have to admit, I was a bit iffy about this being set in India. I usually don't care for someone changing settings (main exception: Ian McKellan's Richard III...wow!), but I love how this works, especially during Act II.

Also, JM was definitely right about this show - the chorus really is another "lead" character. Every couple (or sets of couples, I should say) get plenty to do or thrown in on their own...particularly in the second act. I lovelovelove what people have come up with, and I refuse to divulge any names or bits. Come see the show!
