Okay, so I think my laptop is over-heating itself. I didn't even realise until the other day when my computer beeped and I clicked on something and it said CPU Temp: 90 degrees (fatal) - or something along those lines. What exactly is a CPU temperature, where should it be at and what can be done about making it less fucked up?
In other news, I have finished Anna Karenina as of five hours ago, am excessively proud of self. Am now quarter of the way through Pride and Prejudice to celebrate. If I have to take my computer into the shop, I will run out of stuff to read. I've been resting it the past couple of days, like, turning it off when I've checked email/flist/facebook and I have done so much reading. It's been fabulous. I only have one more new 'reading for pleasure' book with me - Lloyd Jones's Mister Pip, which is actually a present for my Aunty.
So, this year I have read the following novels:
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger - I prefered the film. It was a pretty lame excuse for a book and I really just couldn't give a rat's arse about the main character.
Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure by John Cleland - The porn got rather repetitive.
My Name Was Judas by CK Stead - Very good. Enjoyed a lot. Surprisingly gripping. I liked the summarising poetry at the end of each chapter. Made me want to know more about Judas and Jesus and all that fun stuff. Satisfied my ancient geeky history side.
Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe - I really enjoyed this, unlike the rest of my class. Totally missed the modern point of controversy though.
I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes by Jaclyn Moriarty - This was a very sweet, whimsical novel. I am a Moriarty fan so I loved it, but, I don't know. Some might find her style irritating or a bit too whimsical. Funny, sexy, mysterious.
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy - I enjoyed reading this surprisingly a lot. Won't say anything more as I know Zsofi is reading it as well.
This is not including the multiple re-reads of Jane Austen, and the three other books I brought over with me. It also does not include things like philosophical tracts and plays and poetry and countless short stories. Just novels.
In other news, seven of us celebrated St Patrick's Day with Tequila and Twister and Titanic. Also, there were pierogies at dinner tonight, I may or may not have squealed. They were my favourite food when I was seven and you just can't get them in New Zealand.
In other other news, I turn 19 in two weeks exactly.
I can't open the curtains in my room because the sun renders me unable to see.
Love Aimee
ETA: I may or may not have also pretty much completely changed my timetable for next semester just now. Dropped Shakespeare and Greek Mythology (as I can do a similar course at 300-level) and am now taking Greek and Roman Epic and Contemporary Literature. They study The Jane Austen Book Club! And The Da Vinci Code! How fun will that be. Also, it's Charles Ferrall who is made of win.
