So Joe and I just finished watching the entire series and my thoughts are primarily about Season 3 - specifically how the show wrapped up.
Season 1 - Probably one of the tightest written first season shows I have ever seen. Not any glaring holes, solid performances by everyone. Introduction of one of my most favorite TV couples ever. (Logan/Veronica, Duh). Love at first viewing. Rape jokes are never funny, but the realistic way that Veronica’s drugging and raping was dealt with was irreverent at times, but it never felt like a MAKE A JOKE AND IT WON’T SEEM SO BAD! “A Trip to the Dentist” was one of the most amazing episodes of television I’ve ever seen. One of my favorite things about this show is the (subtle? Nah.) commentary on how women in our society sabotage each other in seemingly-minor-with-devastating-effects sort of ways. Granted, it was Logan and Dick (Oh, Dick) who hold a VERY large piece of the responsibility for what happened to Veronica, but Madison has a pretty big piece herself. Logan’s stand up for my woman thing was fantastic. And the ultimate wrap up of the season was just as good as the opener.
Season 2 - Veronica/Duncan is so very vomitous. Grody grody grody - Logan’s way better, despite his tortured nature for doing the wrong people and things. Though, I must say, hearing “Can Dick and Beaver come out to play.” Gave me laughs for hours. I got a bit tired of the dragged out Aaron crap and it seems that there was an opportunity for a really awesome way for Cassidy to exact his revenge on Big Dick and Little Dick that could have been handled without the whole child molester-Chlamydia-revisit to Shelley Pomeroy’s party storyline. That felt rushed. Joe and I were convinced that Cassidy was about to fuck Neptune in an even bigger real estate scam than his dad. And if not bigger, then at least a lot more personal. Logan saving the day was fantastic and I have so much … obsession stored in my brain (and pants) for Logan. I’ve been writing fic/fantasizing a lot in my head and Mary Sue-ing the hell out of it. I have lavender eyes, auburn tresses that curl to my waist, I can sing like the nightingales, and can fuck like a porn star. It’s made work a lot more bearable. (So much for toning down my celebrity crushes. Rowr.) Thank God it’ll never get written - that would be Bad Fic to pass out to your friends and laugh at. Anyway … Bye Meg - sorry about the bus. Bye Duncan - have a great time down under. And also? Find a nice boy to settle down with. Keith - you jackass. And Veronica? “A PONY!” is now a Conat Family tag line.
Season 3 - Oh show. Oh RT. What did you do to my show? It’s interesting watching the series three years later and knowing the DRAH-MAH that went down with the cancellation and the Season 4 pilot and the yes, a movie! No, a movie! I kind of liked the shorter arc mysteries, but I really missed there being throw away stuff from the first episode of the season that shows up alter as an AH-HA! Moment. I didn’t buy Vincent being that acrimonious at Keith and Veronica. I always felt a competitor-but-gotcher-back sort of relationship with them. Sot he nasty crap surrounding the campaign felt bogus. I’m assuming that that, plus the Jake Kane/The Castle/Veronica !Sex Tape were thrown in there once it was official that the show was over because that felt so very hastily thrown together. Like, there was no point to it at all. It didn’t appear to be tied to the campaign and if it was supposed to be, it was sloppy, sloppy writing. Logan self-destructing again was painful (in a good way) to watch and the episode with Heather made the pain worth it. I never bought him and Parker - she was kind of pointless, anyway. Like that demon roommate of Buffy’s first year at UC-Sunnydale. Put V and Mac in the damn room together and have V work for Keith, like Cindy said. Piz was just a Hetero Duncan. PAUL JUDD FTW!!
My Favorite Things:
•The fact that the central female characters are wicked smart, witty, (mostly) confident, and awesome but are flawed human beings as well.
•Logan smirking.
•Logan being a smart ass.
•Logan smirking, being a smart ass, with no shirt on, and his hands in the waistband of his sweatpants.
•Weevil - never have I loved a biker/gangster dude so much in all my life.
•The pop-culture references the characters spewed out that are funny as hell to the previous generations, but would mean NOTHING to the actual character - “I’m glad we caught you at home. Can we use your phone?”
•Dick and his ridiculousness. I just fell in love with him in season 2. He’s a total DB, but totally loveable as well. Little bugger.
•Keith and Veronica’s relationship - save the last 2 episodes. No way he does that, even for his daughter. No way at all.
My Not-So-Favorite Things:
•Season 3.
•How the series ended.
•The new dog they used for Backup.
•No Season 4!!!
So that’s it, fellow Neptune-ians. It was a great run and I loved it, but you know what they say about good things - they never happen in threes and they never last. Just remember me when.
