I'm super stoked, because in less than a week, my dad will be in Seattle for the second time ever. The last time, he was here with his angry (now-ex) wife, and we didn't do a lot of fun things because of her, and the fact that I didn't know what fun things there were going on. I was a kid! I lived out in the sticks!
So this is an excellent time for a do-over. He's getting in Wednesday afternoon, where we'll be putting him up in the Hyatt Place by the Space Needle. It's nice and central, and way out of the budget he'd stated. Hopefully, at least, he'll get reimbursed from his client, since he's up here for work, at least ostensibly. I'd like to take him out to a nice and cheap dinner. He's never had pho, and he's naturally a light eater, so perhaps that would be smart. (Depends upon the weather, too, since I like pho when it's rainy.)
Thursday, I'm defending my thesis, and bringing dad along for kicks. After that, we'll get lunch and drive up to Snoqualmie, where we'll inspect some bleachers he designed for a golf tournament. I'll probably take him to the Ave for some cheap Korean-Japanese food at this place I love, but never remember the name of. After the inspection, I'll take him to dinner and maybe to Lowe's, where we can get the stuff for making a linen closet off the new bathroom. Hopefully we will get some demo done Thursday night in prep for popping a door in.
(Can you tell I've been thinking about this a lot? I still have Friday - Sunday to talk about, but I've already spent three paragraphs on this! I've been missing my dad all my life, it seems, since my parents divorced when I was 2 and have lived 2000 miles away from each other ever since.)
Friday, my mom wants to drive up to Seattle and see my dad. We'll do touristy things then - go out to coffee, see some local parks (the Arboretum?), maybe take the Underground Tour. They stayed friends so that I didn't have to see them argue, but then the ex-wife kept a tight leash on dad, so they haven't really "hung out" since I was a baby.
Saturday, Kammy is having a BBQ at Snackpalace. Meat and beer baby! It'll be fun to hang out in the yard and maybe play some card games with Dad and hang out with friends. Perhaps watch a movie, or finish the linen closet too. I'm just planning on relaxing then.
Sunday dad goes back. :(
Still not sure where I'll fit in the Kappo Tamura trip, since I promised dad I'd take him to the best sushi restaurant in the country.
