How to lose my business and get me to encourage a boycott of your establishment

So last night I went to my local Pluto's restaurant here in Davis. (Pluto's is a chain of 8 restaurants in Central California and the San Francisco Bay Area.) I took my friend cowgirlknits so she could taste their delicious delicious food. Sadly, it was not to be, and here's why:

The story is beneath the cut. )

You should have kept the sign. By california law, businesses are required to charge only the lowest advertised price. Having that sign could have gotten you several thousand dollars.
As is, with a witness you can at the very least get them reprimanded and fined, and possibly get some shut-up money from the corporate.

Well, since I didn't actually purchase the food, I don't know that I have a cause of action against them. Instead I'll settle for telling the truth a whole lot.

I'm unemployed, and Pluto's is near public property. I can always make a large cardboard sign that says "Boycott Pluto's, Ask Me Why" and stand on the sidewalk. Isn't the First Amendment fun?

The First Amendment is only fun if you have the requisite permits. By they way, as far as I can tell in the California Code, you do not have to have purchased anything for you to have a cause of action. The fact that they refused to honor the lowest advertised price is sufficient, you aren't required to pay. Keeping the sign would have been a good idea, but an eyewitness account should be OK.

I would write a spectacularly legalistic and nasty letter. Have at!!

Doesn't matter that you didn't purchase, you didn't purchase because they would not honor their advertised price.

I just had something similar happen at the Noah's in Livermore. After getting lunch, I went to the counter again to get a cinnamon-stick thing which had a little sign in the display case saying $1.09. The girl rings me up, and it's $1.29. Sales taxes aren't that high (yet), so I say that the sign says $1.09. She says that the sign is wrong. I hand her a dollar and a dime, and tell her that's the price shown, and that's what I'm going to pay, and walk out (with my cinnamon stick).

Wow, I guess the place has really gone downhill since we used to turn up regularly. Oh well, there are plenty of better places to eat in town, I guess I'll be going to those instead.

yay thai nakorn!

there's one here in San Bruno as well. I wonder if they're all related?

The one here has reasonable lunch specials, is always consistently good, and is fast and polite, too!

Considering Pluto's isn't anywhere near me, I will definitely boycott it with you! Also at any time when I may be around to visit, if possible.
