Well that was a long and pleasant weekend. It started in Thursday evening when Mark, Heather, Alex and Vicki arrived after driving up from Cambridge/Nottingham. We had a curry and watched Mean Girls which never fails to entertain. On Friday we decided against a bus tour as the weather was crappy, and went into town hoping to do an underground tour. We wandered quite a bit, couldn't find any tours about to start and went for a fry up in a Grassmarket pub. We then walked up to the castle and went round the tartan museum thing which provided much amusement in the form of watching an American couple dress up in one piece kilt outfits to have their picture taken. We then found that Mary King's close was all booked up and after much debate (read: argument) decided to go shopping instead./ A quick flash around H&M, DP and New Look and a cup of teas in Costa later we coincided with a Gemma and went home to eat pizza and watch True Romance. I escaped with 3 tops and missed out an an amazing pair of New look wedges as annoyingly the NL in town had virtually no size 4 shoes.
Saturday Gemma disappeared before we all woke up for some reason and after eating cold pizza we went to the National Museum of Flight which was surprisingly entertaining. We saw lots of things which fly, with the highlights for me being Concorde and a Polaris missile. We then went to Dunbar where we had a very late lunch in the chip shop and went to the beach (read: rocks) to wander round and play some games with the football, frisbee and boom bats Heather got at the pound shop. Went to Asda on the way home and I got two lovely dresses which I've had to borrow funds for out of the joint account due to an incredible lack of money. Dinner was homemade mac and cheese and Ben & Jerrys. There had been hope of getting down to the Beggar, but we were pretty much all to tired so antisocially sat about reading magazines and updating Facebook profiles instead.
Everyone left quite early today so time has been spent tidying up, sunbathing on the roof, napping and watching My So Called Life. Good Sunday stuff, but I have that odd need to nap but too hot/restless thing going on. I also have very dodgy eyes which seem to have got very blind after my bump on the head last week so I now have a sight test booked next week, and contact lens consultation the week after.
In other news, our good friend Jeff-the-American has announced his engagement and impending doom marriage next July to Anika, an old gf who he moved to New Zealand last summer to get back with. It's all very exciting, the wedding id on a Caribbean cruise and Colin is to be a groomsman, so that's next summer holiday planned. Should get a couple of days in Miami which will be great. The odd thing is that this is the first time we've had a friend get married and it doesn't seem to be out of stupidity. Or to prove a point. Or out of desperation. It actually seems really sensible, and like the right thing to do. Which is worrying given that Jeff is my age, and actually i think possibly a few months younger. It kind of highlights how old I'm getting that I have friends who get married and it's not weird or stupid.
Ugh.
