Does anybody else remember the Uncle Smiley films? My elementary school used to play these films on days when it rained and we couldn't go out for recess. They, along with The Red Balloon, remain as faint images in my memory.
I can't really recall any of the plots or storylines, but I just have a dim recollection of a heavy-set guy with a beard and suspenders who drove around in a beat-up VW van. It was all very 70s, what with the hokey Californianisms of innocent nature and dappled sunlight (viz. Smokey the Bear and the Crying Indian), but for some reason, I retain a certain tenderness towards Uncle Smiley that I quickly lost for Mr. Rogers.
I wish I could find some clips of the films, but my Google-fu is failing me.

Also, during my teens, I used to smoke a bowl while watching Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting. He painted complete shite, but he made me and the trees really happy.
