30 Days of Christopher Eccleston 26. Favourite audio book/story/drama read by CE
That would have to be
Sacred Nation, a documentary he did for BBC radio about the religious history of Britain. It's great because it's a fascinating subject, and it's *hours* long - hours and hours of Eccles-voice. [UPDATE: Sacred Nation is once again available thanks to the wonderful Art Thou Beguil'd Now. Go
here, click on the link that says "Radio", and scroll down to find it. It's labeled "Nation" and it's in six half-hour parts.]
Honorable mentions:
"Crossing the Dark Sea" by Michael Symmons Roberts, from BBC radio 4, which you can find a link to
here. (Huh, just noticed that he's the same guy who wrote "Sacred Nation".) Pure romantic brain-candy. I wish they'd chosen a different singer for the music though - classically trained sopranos set my teeth on edge.
"A Day in the Death of Joe Egg" by Peter Nichols. Find it
here. It's a mainly two-person play (a few other characters come in in the second act) with CE and an actress named Kaye Wragg taking the leads. It's a bit dated, but a compelling story. The lead couple tell a lot of stories to one another, so you get to hear Chris doing a lot of different voices and accents as he recounts past events.
