Graveyard Shift

Kyuhyun yawned as he changed the flow rate of his patient's IV. It was three in the morning and he was in no mood for this. And no matter how cheerful and likable said patient was, he felt like kicking the old man for insisting on changing the flow rate according to his preference. It wasn't called a doctor's order for nothing. Clearly, Mister Park hadn't grasped that.

As soon as the rate was reverted back to 33 gtts/min, he let go of the tubing and slowly left the room, leaving the blabbering old man in peace. He walked down the empty corridor, a little unnerved by the sudden chill the wind brought. He didn't remember having a window on the thirteenth floor. Pushing the thought to the back of his mind, he made his way to the elevators, thinking that he could use a cup of coffee. Monitoring of vital signs wasn't for another hour. He figured Yesung could handle things on his own  until then.

The elevator doors opened with a ding, revealing the lone occupant who was wearing a white patient's gown. Kyuhyun raised his eyebrows as he entered with caution, the double doors closing behind him. The man might be trying to abscond or something. Kyuhyun had heard stories of patients who escaped the hospital's premises because of the inability to pay their bills. For a while, Kyuhyun felt like he ought to do something and report the man. Then again, he decided against it after a while. He actually felt sorry for him if he was indeed escaping due to the reason Kyuhyun presumed. He figured the hospital can do without the few hundred thousand won this man's bill is worth.

Just then, he felt like he was being watched. True enough, he found  his companion staring at him from beneath his bangs. He looked gaunt, almost lifeless. Kyuhyun thought he was right in his decision to let this man go after all. He was about to ask the other what it was that he wanted when the latter beat him to it.

"Hi Sir. Do you work here?"

"Ah. Yes. I'm a nurse in the Geriatrics department."

"Oh? Goodie! I just want to ask you something."

"Sure. What is it?"

"I know it's weird and I don't like you freaking out or something. But I'm really confused."

"Don't worry. It takes a lot to freak me out. Go ahead."

"Um... I noticed that patients in this hospital have tags around their wrists. Like, I strolled around and went to the Nursery. Baby boys had blue tags while baby girls had cute pink ones. Then I saw a guy who came out of surgery with a white tag on. I've seen more; yellow, red, green... everything. But I don't know what my tag means."

Kyuhyun's eyes immediately flew to the man's wrist, stomach dropping as he saw the black tag around it - LEE SUNGMIN written in bold letters at the center. He felt his mouth go dry as he processed the information, not quite able to believe what he was seeing. For a while, he considered it to be one of Yesung's pranks to get back at him. But then, he dismissed it almost immediately. Yesung wasn't that brilliant to think of such things.

Beads of sweat started to form at his temple as he struggled to get a grip on himself and stop his knees from shaking. Just then, a rush of cold air seemed to breeze through below them, gaining Kyuhyun's attention.

Kyuhyun's heart leaped out of his chest at what he saw. The patient, Lee Sungmin, had no feet and was hovering in the air.

The Crypt Keeper

Kyuhyun groaned for the umpteenth time as he was faced by yet another dead end. Why Mister Kim thought it was a good idea to leave his students to explore the ruins individually was beyond him.He could've at least had them pair up. Kyuhyun would've been glad to take that clueless classmate of his, Lee Donghae, if need be. Talking about hidden alien messages in the hieroglyphics on the wall was so much better than being alone. And now, Kyuhyun was lost... all alone.

Just then, Kyuhyun heard some noise towards his left. He followed the sound and was welcomed with the sight of a golden brass door which he didn't remember being there before. Thinking that he didn't have any other option any way, he gently pushed the doors open, only to reveal a huge well-lighted hall. He slowly stepped inside, barely registering the resounding snap of the metal doors that closed behind him.

He made his way to the center of the room, the shiny ornaments making his curiosity get the better of him. He examined the display - rows and rows of gold objects greeting his vision. He picked up a vase and examined it in the light - the intricate patterns on it looked so genuine. It was as if he was just looking at the real objects they had studied in Egyptian Archaeology. Not that it was possible though. Those objects were at the museum for display. Still, he couldn't help but be awed. Kyuhyun knew he had to give props to the curator and the staff altogether. The vase was even heavy, as if made of real gold. If Kyuhyun didn't know better, he would've concluded that he was seeing the real thing.

"Who are you?"

Kyuhyun dropped the vase on the floor with a shattering clang, his heart beat going a hundred times faster at the sudden voice.

"Uh... Good afternoon Sir. I'm Cho Kyuhyun from Kyunghee University. My classmates and I are having a field trip today but I kind of got lost."

"Field trip?"

"Yes Sir. With my classmates in Archaeology."

"I do not know what you are talking about young lad, but never mind that now. I am glad to be graced with company after all these years."

Kyuhyun raised his eyebrows at this. What kind of tourist guide didn't know what Archaeology meant? And to think the man was wearing a mere linen loincloth, his chest exposed, except for the various tattoos littered all over the expanse of white skin. Talk about taking his job seriously. And how dare he call him young lad? The man looked like he was no older than Kyuhyun himself, younger even.

"Uh... Okay? So, can you tell me where the exit is... Mister Pharaoh, Sir?"

"Oh no! I'm not the pharaoh. I am a mere slave sent to serve his highness in the after-life. My name is Sungmin."

"Oh, is that so? Okay Mister Sungmin, can you please show me the way out of this pyramid?"

"There's no way out."

"What!?"

"I meant what I said. There's no way out. We're going to be here together, forever... Cho Kyuhyun."

True enough, Kyuhyun found no doors as he surveyed the walls of the hall - the golden brass door from before was nowhere to be seen. His heart sped up as he felt the walls close in on him, a shrill shout escaping his mouth as he saw Sungmin disintegrate into dust right before his very eyes.
