I'm standing up to use my computer right now, as it's perched on one of the dressers. Awesome sauce. So yes, I'm back at school, wee-hoo! Yesterday was six degrees of whatever and ninety-nine degrees of humid August nonsense. Today was supposed to get up into the triple digits according to everyone I talked to down here, but this morning weather.com is singing a different song (ninety-seven with high humidity that feels like triple-digit heat, which is still deathlike). It's half past eight in the morning and already eighty degrees! Augh!
Anyway, all is generally good. I just woke from some great dreams, which is nice as last year when I got to school I couldn't remember any of my dreams for quite a while. The view outside my window is fabulous, let me tell you - red brick wall, staircase, dumpster, part of this old rusty thing that resembles a small airplane hangar, and a tiny patch of grass. YES. But there are also trees and sky, which is good.
Everything in here is so bare and messy right now. I haven't moved any furniture or unpacked anything because I wanted to wait until my roommate gets here so we can make decisions together, as I generally think is good roommate etiquette, so there are plastic grocery store bags and such things ev-er-y-where, not to mention all the big plastic totes I'm hauling my things around in. The closets are a bit disappointing and there are no indiginous mirrors in this room, but otherwise there will, I think, be a decent amount of space. Which is good. I was quite worried about the space (after living in a four-person room with only one other person last semester and thus having TONS of space), but I think it's fine. Yay.
Unfortunately, I did not get to run up to the Hermann lobby and twirl about first thing as I had threatened to do, as my first ten hours back were just full of wonders. After checking in, moving in things, running to the store, and getting late lunch with my family, I went up after they left to see Jess upstairs and ended up remaining in the company of herself and her lovely roommate (who actually is the one who helped me out during Random Fever Illness in May, aww) until almost eleven o'clock. Har! We went for dinner, at which I had some yummy yummy crabcakes, made what was my second (though their first) Wal-Mart run of the day (to Maureen and Mom, I did decide to get a shower curtain for the front of the closet, plus yogurt and veggies, whee!), and also were present for the installation of their wee air conditioner, which was fab-yoo-luss because their room was absolutely boiling. Once I left their company, I finally trotted up to Hermann, where I wandered the lobby and half of the second floor like some kind of ghost before slipping outside (INTO THE FURNACE) to chat with another student and two of my professors. Ha. I had actually told both said professors in letter correspondance over the summer about my intentions to run up to the building upon my arrival and twirl gleefully in the lobby, and they noted that I had not. Oh dear! But I was able to see the new lobby furniture AND go about the department viewing all the renovations. In the costume shop I really did twirl gleefully, though it was more of a "*spin* Gasp! *spin other way* Gasp!" sort of enchanted viewing response to how nice everything looks up there.
Okay. So. I am MASSIVELY hungry and very sticky and gross. So I'm a-gonna brush my teeth, eat something, then shower myself and get things going. A-woo-hoo. Thus this BORING entry ends.
Addition: The bathroom is half EVIL. In the building I lived in last year, the bathroom had windows which you could crack open if it got too stuffy in there, allowing a lovely breeze. I adored those windows because I cannot stand sticky steamy muggy drippy-wet bathrooms. This year, no windows. Not that I really expected otherwise, I guess, but I also did not think much on it. Ew ew ew. However, someone has put little hand soaps out in addition to the built-in one. They're those Nature's Something-or-other organic soaps, and one is scented neroli orange and chocolate mint, the other grapfruit and some-kind-of ginger, and are both very yummy-smelling and nice. Whee!
