I put the birds outside today so I could clean their room. When I went to retrieve them, I found one of them dead inside the cage.
It was the one I've affectionately called the "Old Man" as he is the bird I got back at Easter in 2000. I've seen many other birds come and go, including all his cage mates that were killed by the ferret I had at the time. By the end of the summer I didn't have the ferret any more because I realized I liked birds more. Of all my animals, he was the one I'd had the longest, and my life in the last 6 years has been nothing short of interesting.
So there it is. I am now the "mother" of 9 birds, not 10. I don't expect to replace this one, either.
