So last night I finished typing my grandmother's novel Jenny. It was an achievement, and I busted my butt in 2 weeks to get it done. Originally, I had hoped to be an Olympic-level typist and get all 4 of her novels done before the month was out. As I worked on things, it became obvious that was not going to happen, so gradually my standards dropped until I now have just the one.
With this one novel, I am going to edit and clean it up and submit it. I should, if all is well, have that done within a matter of days. Then I will send all things off to CreateSpace and wait for my free (with voucher) proof copy.
That leads me back to my own stories.
I have 2 things going on here.
A. My Wolfgang story... the one I started for 2009 NaNo. I completed the 50K word count, but I did not finish the story.
B. Inspired by my friends doing WriDaNoJu, I have a new story idea. (Angels are actually extraterrestrials. You read it here first.) I have not written this idea (other than 1,670 words which can easily be scrapped), but I have it.
So... I am wondering how to move forward and if moving forward is even possible. See, the wonder of NaNo I found out is the momentum and craziness of it all. But it is said that one should not take an existing idea into NaNo. Wolfgang was an existing idea (a original fiction retelling of a long fan fiction I had also not completed). His story is not done yet.
I want to finish his story. He deserves to be finished because... well... really, he's wonderful. This character lives and breathes in my head. I want people other than me to know him.
The trouble is that by the consensus of NaNo-like writing, I would be unsuccessful in finishing or even adding 50K more on this already-existing story if I tried to do another dedicated writing month with it.
I don't want to give up, but I'm feeling discouraged. I am hoping that you, my flist, might have some insight or words of encouragement to help me get over this bump in the road.
