Blah. It's been a really awful day. -_-

Firstly, Vlad and I almost, *almost* walked out of English today, because everyone was being retarded. Our class was reading a short story about a society where every year the citizens had a lottery and the winner (loser) got stoned to death to bring about a good harvest, so of course we argued that we had no right to call it horrifying because all we have to compare this society to is our own, which makes our opinions very heavily biased. We also argued that random deaths by lottery are a good form of population control, and it's sometimes necessary, etc. But every time we made a comment, the rest of the class would start yelling at us and our bigot of a teacher would lecture us very firmly about her interpretation. During one of the chaotic periods when the entire class was screaming at us, we were about to leave, but decided that if we left it would show that we're a couple of immature little brats who can't take a little criticism (little my ASS) on their ideas.

At the beginning of the class, the teacher claimed that we have to look for certain story elements in short fiction to become 'critical readers'. But when we actually started criticizing, we were completely burned by both the class *and* the teacher. How hypocritical is that?!
