Summary: While on vacation, Yugi finds himself seeing Yami in a different light and has a moment to reflect on all he takes for granted.

Yugi liked the water. He wasn’t anything like an Olympic swimmer, but he felt at home in it and was happy at the beach or pool. Or, on this occasion, hot springs. Floating on his back in the warm water, he closed his eyes and relaxed. This vacation had been a great idea. Yugi was glad to be away from home and the routine life for a few days, to devote all his time to just himself and Yami. Hearing a splash, Yugi straightened up and looked around. Yami was nowhere to be seen, but he noticed ripples not far away and knew what the splash meant.

It was Yami’s first trip to hot springs, and he’d been delighted with them from the start. Yugi enjoyed watching him look so playful and happy, and he waited for Yami to break the surface.

A few moments passed, and then Yami pushed himself out of the water, making an even louder splash than before as he stood, the water reaching his midriff. Yugi shielded his eyes from drops, and then found himself frozen as he watched Yami straighten up with his eyes closed. Drops sparkled in his hair and eyelashes and small streams of water traced his tightened body, his skin glistening in the dim light of the springs. As he stood, he threw his head back to shake off the extra drops, his lips slightly parted as he breathed deeply. The motion accented his figure perfectly, his shoulders broad, neck slender, and chest smooth.

Yugi’s heart skipped. He’d been seeing Yami jump in and out of the water all day, but never stopped to watch him when he actually broke the surface, and the scene was…amazing. Somehow, in a single moment, Yami had managed to make himself seem so many things. Innocent yet sensual, beautiful yet masculine, and untouchable yet vulnerable. Yugi was sure that no other person and no other scene on Earth was so stunning.

And only Yugi got to witness it, that was the best thing of all. Sometimes Yugi would take a step back and realize how lucky he was. He took Yami for granted on occasion, he figured Yami was there and would always be there and accepted his perfection as just another thing to love about him. But at times like these when he was the only one around and he took a good look at Yami, he would see his lover in a whole new light. Yami was incredible, in so many ways to the point that he sometimes seemed otherworldly. That was when Yugi would feel that he never wanted anyone else to witness these moments. They were his, and his alone.

At that moment, Yami opened his eyes and glanced around, and saw Yugi staring. The illusion vanished and Yugi blushed deeply as Yami studied him for a second, looking puzzled. Then he paused and then his eyes brightened and he sank back into the water, kicking his feet just enough to propel him forward. “What’re you thinking about so intently, Yugi?” He asked as he reached him and took his hands, pulling them both up to stand, embracing him as the corners of his mouth tugged a little in an ill-held-back grin.

“Oh…nothing.” Yugi replied innocently, hugging him tightly and grinning back. “Nothing at all.”
