Lots of pictures under the cut, definitely not dial-up friendly!
Halloween - Blood Cosplay:
(Other pictures from Halloween that weren't really cosplay related but that are still fun (chasing each other around, posing with people, etc.) can be seen on my personal LJ,
here!
Here's the character:
Blood is the blond one. Here's a better shot of his clothes:
Making the costume
Black pants were purchased easily enough, but finding a lace-up white shirt, much less one with the style of ripped sleeves, was impossible. So I gave up on matching the sleeves and decided to focus on a basic white collared shirt. It came down to a white shirt I already had, (and failed to take a "before" picture of) or this one that I found for cheap at Ross:
Incidentally, that's about as serious as my face can get without going into I-look-frickin-deformed territory. I pulled my hair back to make myself look more masculine. xD
I ended up not going with that shirt, as it was too girly and not old-fashioned looking enough. It's kind of fancy, so maybe I'll wear it someplace formal someday. xD
The black tunic/overlay had to be hand-made, there was no way to alter anything into it. So Mom taught me how to make a pattern and sew it.
Step one:
Sorry for how blurry it is. >.<
I'd never actually used a sewing machine before this. So that was rather interesting. xD
Lalala. Seamstress Chey. x3 Don't I look so domestic?
It took surprisingly little time to make the whole thing, but I guess it was a sort of simple design.
The bottom, waiting to be hemmed.
Every picture says something. This one says, "This is my first time sewing and so help me Gods, if you make fun of my uneven hemlines, I will eat your soul." (I left the red-eye in to get the message across even better. xD)
Ta-da! One black dress/tunic/overlay...thing. (Seriously, what would you call this? I still don't know.)
Once that was made, I had the three main parts!
That's white shirt #2 you see there, but it was still button-up at this point. I needed to get some grommets. This is where Dad came through with gommets and the tools to put them in. The downside? They were sail grommets. Big, badass, thick sail grommets. I knew from the moment I saw them that they were definitely way too big. But Dad was so proud of himself for being able to use the tools (they were really old school). Also: 1) I'm too damn nice to people and must make everyone happy, and 2) I would have had to listen to his bitching about how nobody appreciates him and how he tries so hard to be helpful and how nobody cares for the next year. I'm not even exaggerating. His powers of holding a grudge and passive-aggressively informing me of it for months on end are truly things of awe.
So I ended up with a shirt that looked like this:
I like to think that Blood would have approved of giant badass grommets. It looked pretty cool after all when I tried it on:
The Wig
I ended up going all-out and purchasing the Enchantment wig from Amphigory in light blond.
This was before I got a wig head. The purple bow is there to hold back hair while I was trying to separate out the part I wanted to use for bangs, since this particular one didn't come with bangs.
Here it is after adding bangs. I studied like ten different shots of Blood from the first chapter to try to get them right. I swear in a few scenes it looked as if he had some slightly longer ones on the side, which is why I added those in.
You can see how loooong this wig was. In retrospect, the longer it is means more chances for tangles, but I'm a newb to this whole cosplay thing. xD;
Glamor shot~ What fun is it being a gay demon if I can't do at least one glamor pose?
The bangs turned out to be great for angsty poses.
Serious face, reminding you that just cause I'm royally whipped, that doesn't mean I still couldn't rip your head off. If Ishuca would let me, that is.
The Clothes
I took a few pictures before I got the grommets put in...
Being flat chested becomes a truly helpful thing when it comes to cross-playing. Cleavage? It doesn't exist in my world.
The tails and pants kind of blend together, so I held the tails out to give a better idea of the design. And yes, I didn't bother to tuck my shirt in. xD
The shirt and pants without the overlay. Even though it's not really accurate to the character's outfit, I was pretty happy with the shirt anyway. I like how it looks. ^^ (Yeah, Blood got a few piercings. xDD)
Sweet and innocent, and ready to drink your life force while I'm at it. xD (Yep, I have fangs.)
I was starting to get silly at this point. I think Blood would look good with glasses though.
Then I thought, "man, this costume is great. What could possibly make it better?"
My answer?
Cat ears and a duel disk. Because that's how I roll.
Halloween Night
I even managed to work in some small details, like his black bracelet and fake wounds on my right hand (from breaking out of the ice). I ended up not making his necklace since I honestly couldn't tell if he was wearing it in the first chapter or not. ._. (The white bracelet is a permanent one that I can't take off without cutting it off, and I've had it for years and wasn't about to take it off for this.)
Rawr!
Primping time! You can see the wounds better in this picture, too.
Revisiting the future role as Really Angsty Blood from volume 5. "Did I not understand...what I held in my arms? You, my most important...and I did this..." (It's too bad I didn't have any fake blood for my hands for that bit...)
Guarding the candeh.
Speaking of candy, we WERE there for Halloween, which meant...
Trick-or-treaters! Whom I gave candy to, because like I said...Ishuca really does have me whipped. u_u
By the end of the night, the hair spray in my bangs was losing its hold, so they were falling in my face more.
And Blood's deepest, darkest secret of all?
He loves cats.
And he gets all giggly when he gets to hold them. x3
I really wanted to re-create the trapped-in-ice pose, which turned out to be harder than it sounds. I kept accidentally chopping one of my hands off. >.< I did finally get the shot though, so I'll round off the photo montage with a picture of how it all began...
Waiting to be saved.
And, for work on Halloween, I dressed as Revylan Asche, my OC from this year's NaNo:
This is Rev:
Don't expect me to look much like him. xD
The base of the outfit. I only had an hour to put the costume together, and didn't have the time or money to find another blond wig, so I was Rev, after he grew his hair out and dyed it brown. xD Also, because my bangs didn't want to cooperate, I decided to be Working Rev and wear a bandana. Technically he does wear one while at work (he's a mechanic, hence the wrench in my pocket) so I went with that.
It took me like a half hour to paint on the tattoo and scar (yeah, that white smudge is meant to be a scar. ^^;; I did mention that I only had an hour to put this together and take pictures, right?) I was pretty happy with the result though. x3
Yep, that's the shirt from my Blood cosplay. I don't have any other masculine-style white button down shirts. Plus I really like that shirt and wanted another excuse to wear it. xD
Then I started getting silly again. "You imbeciles, I said carburetor, not radiator! Do I have to come in there and fix the damn thing myself?! The whole point of hiring assistants was so that I wouldn't have to do everything anymore!"
Rev needs reading glasses, so I punched the lenses out of some old sunglasses for this shot.
It was quite a lot of fun to dress up for work, but I was disappointed to see that I was the only employee who did dress up. Where was my co-workers' Halloween spirit?!
Happy belated Halloween everyone!
