[art] Coloured artwork 2003-2009

Jan 11, 2009 09:31

Art dump time once again! Includes coloured pics and paintings from 2003 to 2009. Overall post rated G. Large pictures under the cut.

2003 - 2004; Projects from art class:

We were told to do a project with perspective. So of course I incoporated Yugioh and Puzzleshipping into mine. I actually liked this one enough to hang it up on my wall, where it was later joined by my entry tag to the 2004 Mall Tour Tournament (lost in the first round. I was such a noob. Wish I was there now, I bet I'd do halfway decent.) and my Puzzleshipping Junkie sign I made with sticky paper that I stole from the art room.

The project had something to do with art deco. Iunno. All I knew was I was going to find a way to very sneakily involve Yugioh. If you think you see very abstract eyes of wdjat and the Puzzle...you're not seeing things, that was intentional. xD

This project involved painting. I very much dislike painting. And if you're wondering if I had anything better to do than sit around all day and think of ways to incorporate Yugioh references into every art project...no, I didn't. This was nineth grade, I was a little loner who sat in the corner and nobody ever wanted to talk to. Not looking for sympathy, that's just who I was. And hey, my corner-sitting gave me plenty of time to come up with the most obscure Yugioh references possible. u_u

Okay, this one actually doesn't have a Yugioh reference in it, it's just a sun and moon. I actually like this painting. But see that purple spot in the lower right corner? Where there's a random blue smudge? Yeah, that wasn't my fault, some other idiot threw his/her napkin with paint on it right on top of my painting while it was drying. >_>

As much as I dislike painting, this is another one I was pretty happy with. I wish I'd mixed the sky a little better and made the water more...water-y, but whatever. I got compliments on my spiky little trees. ^^

This one, obviously, is not an obscure Yugioh reference. It's a glaringly obvious Yugioh reference. xD The teacher told us to make a collage using the Rule of Thirds and pick whatever subject we wanted. IT'S HER FAULT FOR GIVING ME FREE REIGN. You'll notice there's not much Puzzleshipping in this...that's because I was still a closet Puzzleshipper at this point.

Okay, art class stuff over.

2003 fanart:

Random Bakura picture. This was drawn from looking at a picture of someone else's fanart, so I take no credit for the pose. Besides, I can't even draw clothing that well NOW, much less back in nineth grade.

2004 fanart:

See, my free-form art from that period came out more like this - so terrible that I cropped Yugi's face out of the picture entirely to make it suitable to post. I forget what I wrote on the grave marker...I think Atemu's name is on there somewhere, I don't remember the rest. Also I totally smudged up the sunset and it turned into this icky colour. All in all, this picture sucked.

So I'm honestly not sure why this one actually came out halfway decent, when it was drawn the same year as the one above. xD And yes, I realize I forgot the scar on Touzokuou Bakura's face. Back in nineth grade I'm not even sure I knew there was supposed to be a scar there, seeing as I had only ever been exposed to the dub.

This was going to be part of a much bigger picture involving Yugi as well...once again, the rest of it was so terrible I just cropped it out. Also, this was not free-form, I drew it looking at a picture from online. And then got too lazy to colour the rest in.

Drawn for the Halloween Art Contest at Anzu's Angels, an old pro-Anzu group I used to be a part of. Considering that I couldn't draw hands or faces from the side at all at this time, so I think it came out halfway decent...even if Yugi's head is abnormally large. Anzu looks cute in his clothes. x3 And Yugi looks cute with his hair all dyed and brushed down. For those who can't read the text, it says:
Anzu: "Okay Yugi, so are you ready to go now?"
Yugi: "You mean you were serious about trick-or-treating dressed as each other?!"
I think I actually won second place or something in the contest, too. ^^

Speaking of Anzu and Yugi...meet Sorcha. Their daughter who also has an abnormally large head WTF. I could not draw people proportionally right back then. (...ignoring the fact that I still can't now, but I've gotten better.) I dislike this drawing very much. Her eyes are all wonky, her clothing is all wrong...however it's only fair to post it since the next picture-

- is Shane, Jou and Mai's son and also Sorcha's BFF. (...and probably BF, if I'd ever written that third part to those horrible stories. Gods I was such a newb when I wrote those. >.>;;;) He's a year younger than her, but they were co-stars in the terrible fics from Hell, so they both get their pics done. Also, that's supposed to be a street light. Not a stripper pole. See, he's got a shadow behind him against the wall, definitely a street light. Let's just get this cleared up now. xD

2005 fanart:

Drawn for an art contest that Beckett was hosting. You'll notice the incredibly obvious Puzzleshippy undertones. And the terrible colours chosen for the heiroglyphics. Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I coloured those. Probably: "I'm so sick of colouring this stupid picture!" *grabs random coloured pencil*
Anyway, I didn't win the contest. I didn't expect to. For one thing, it's not a fabulous work of art. For another, definite Puzzleshippy tones. I figured the Beckett people didn't want to post anything controversial. Until in the next issue, under the art gallery, in a surprise so crazy to me that I tripped and fell flat on my face rushing out to the living room to show my mom, I saw this:

It was actually displayed! I could hardly believe it. I became convinced that there was a Puzzleshipper at Beckett, sneaking such pictures in. It was awesome.

I also did a rather nice coloured Christmas picture this year, which I was going to post for last Christmas but forgot. X_x So that'll be posted in 11 months. xD

2006 fanart:

This was for an art trade with Riyunoa on DevART. The picture she gave me was much better because she was an awesome artist. Lyrics are from some Japanese song...I forget which. Try to ignore the fact that Yami and Yugi are super pale anorexic zombie boys - I swear their skin colouring is darker in the actual picture. It didn't scan well at all. ^^;;

2007 fanart:

My coloured pic "Becoming You" was from this year. I didn't do much other drawing.

2008 fanart:

Is it still fanart if it's your own characters? Anyway, here's Luce and Kyuu. Neither picture came out that well, but whatever. They were my first personal artwork coloured via computer. I intend to colour most of my future pics with the computer from now on.

2009 fanart:

Alright, I'm coming out. Risking life and limb. I'm not a Twilight fan. In fact, I'm a member of a critique, debate, and sometimes rather snarky anti-Twilight site. For the record I have NOTHING against Twilight fans. I'm happy that you guys have a series you enjoy reading. Just like I've got nothing against people who dislike Yugioh (heck, TAS mocks Yugioh on a regular basis and I adore it.). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I simply dislike the series and enjoy getting some lulz out of mocking it. That said, please do not chuck bricks at my head, as there are reports of fans doing.

Anyway, this was drawn for fellow Yugioh fans over at TwilighSucks after me and Panlah got into a PM conversation that consisted of replaying the whole "can't I just mind crush him?" scene from Yugioh: TAS. My little tag on the site is that quote, with the idea that Yami wants to mind crush Edward (character from the series.) In the course of acting out the scene, I thought it would be amusing if I altered the quote from TAS a little to refer to this. The book he's holding is the 4th and final (and possibly weirdest book ever) in the series, which naturally never would have occured if Yami had mind crushed the MC back in the first book. Thus, this picture was born. I know the drawing is a little off - it was drawn in about five minutes. (And I know I put his thumbnail at the wrong angle.) Took much longer to colour, Paintshop the book together, and then manip it into the drawing. I got compliments on it though. ^^
