Mamma Mia!

Haven't see it before, didn't want to see the movie even though there was Meryl Streep, but finally got to seeing it.

And it was exactly as how i expected: Sugary sweet, loud, AND AWESOMELY HAPPY.

ANYWAY so here are my highlights:

So the coveted role of Donna was covered by Lisa Brescia, whose pretty well known in Musical Theater ("Autobiography of Samantha Brown" anyone?), and the new musical "Ordinary Days" which was put on Off-Broadway. So i spotted "Wicked- Chicago" in her credits... paused for a moment, then realized she was the Elphaba I saw in Chicago. And i mean, listening to her effortlessly belt "The Winner Takes it All" was like "yes... that is her all right". I have heard and seen Beth Leavel's version, but as powerful as her's is, I've always prefered a Donna who sang it with more ease, and Lisa did just that. Plus she looks absolutely gorgeous in Spandex and stilletos.

Another surprise talent in Mamma Mia was Clarke Thorell as Harry. After staring at him and his headshot profusely, I realized he looked an awful lot like Corny Collins from Hairspray. Turns out he WAS the ORIGINAL Corny Collins from the Broadway musical. He made a very adorkable Harry and the added British accent definitely made him look and sound a lot like Colin Firth (who i love and is amazing btw). My favorite Harry moment? When he came out in a scene topless, wet after a swim in a conversation with Tanya, and showed everyone how EXTREMELY well built he was for his age. I mean... he was... even i swooned. The whole audience was "wooting". And of course when the men came out in the finale in spandex (yes... even the MEN were in neon sequined tight suits), he obviously was the most well-fit for his suit :P.

Jennifer Perry who played Rosie that night was EXACTLY what Rosie should have been: portly, free spirited, and absolutely charismatic. "Take a Chance on Me" for me was the funniest number to watch and Rosie and Bill's chemistry was very much there, unlike some other couples where its just an over-the-top sex song . And Bill was quite a hunk of meat *COUGH* eheheh... Anyway, brava to her.

Many of the cast members came from the National Tour and most of the younger ones were making their broadway debuts. And seeing all the high energy, dancing a fun emitting from them, I have to say the best part about the show was the ensemble. So to everyone one of them (especially the debuters), CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

I could go on and on about every single person in the cast, but that would make this post WAY too long. So for now all I can say is a big BRAVO to the entire cast of Mamma Mia that night.

Sure, the show is pretty commercial and is pretty light substance-wise, but I went to have a good time and thats what I got from the show.

ABBA has got me pumped, now I can't sleep... "Mamma Mia!" XDDDD

Peace out,
Tenshi
