Okay, as much as I love pre-college, my last post of the year should be more... reflective I shall say :P
For the first time i actually understand the Shanghainese patter my parents and having with their friends and its surprisingly philosophical. Looking at the seating arrangements, they way the 7 adults are sitting and commenting is starting to scarily mimic Plato's Symposium... o_o Mikkelson is haunting me even at the end of the year.
Anyway! What a better way to wait for the new year than with COUNTDOWNS! So here are 2 "top 10" lists for 2010.
First, in honor of Musetown here are my 10 major OBSESSIONS of 2010 (in no particular order)
- Numb3rs: 2 words- David Krumholtz <3
- Kuroshitsuji: My new reason for being an otaku. Proof of obsession here :)
- Andrew Keenan-Bolger: Responsible for the inspiration of starting a blog and MT awesomeness
- Persona 3 Portable: Female Protagonist social links :)
- Lost Symbol by Dan Brown: I had to wait to get this book when i went back to the states for the summer. I finished reading it in 3 nights.
- Disney(land): Thank you bri_chan for making me wanna work in Disneyland at some point in my life
- Alice in Wonderland: The Tim Burton movie, buying the leather bound Lewis Carroll Anthology, being Alice for Halloween. 'nough said.
- Pianofiles: Can't... stop... trading... must get all sheet music possible!
- Cameras: A spin off from wanting to blog and vlog. And my desire for a Cybershot DSC-HX5 :)
- Blogging
Now that I've got that aside, here comes the big mama.
Top 10 of the Year 2010
10. Expo
This was the year that everyone was so hyped up about here in Shanghai. For 12 months people in green jackets invaded the streets, the air was actually no polluted, and of course the friends I've made from all around the globe (Hi Marlena. Hi Irish CrossBorders orchestra). Friends and family who weren't in Shanghai flocked back home just for a chance to see it. Not listing the Expo would be a crime to 2010. Plus their toothpaste-shaped mascot would come after me.
9. Being Featured on "Ask a Star" on Broadway.com
It was seriously, the funniest yet most awesome thing ever. So just for fun, i decided to post a question for Corbin Bleu (yes... THAT Corbin Blue from High School Musical) on "Ask a Star" on Broadway.com since he was playing Usnavi at the time and I'm in love with In the Heights. Lo and behold-
my question was chosen :D. Spot me at 5:42.
8. Getting my own laptop
For the New Year of 2010, i got my first, PERSONAL laptop, though granted it was a Netbook (HP mini). This was the turning point of my computer usage as i could FINALLY stop fight for the desktop and had more space. My original one the gorgeous tord boojne edition of the HP mini, but sadly it just died on me one day. Now its just a pretty set decoration T_T. And of course, owning my own computer meant starting Musetown :)
7. Senior year
Inheriting the senior lounge, off-campus priviledges, being at the top of the school, college apps, the beginning of the end.
6. The "Classic" Broadway Season
La Cage Aux Folles, Finian's Rainbow, Ragtime, A Little Night Music, Promises Promises, Merchant (Pacino), Driving Miss Daisy, I mean seriously, I couldn't have obsessed enough over the pretty much EPIC revivals with these stellar casts and stars, getting the critical reception they deserved, though reality and commercialism did lead to some quick closings (Finian's Rainbow, Ragtime... sad) Either way, this was a good year to go on a broadway binge.
5. Starting this blog
After watching AKB and his wonderful journeys through his blog, I've always wanted to do something similar to find fellow people to obsess with, talk about discovers and so on and so forth, plus finding something to do with my senioritis :P. 2010 lead to the creation of this little place. I didn't want Musetown to be another teenage myspace journal. i wanted it to be something people besides friends would want to follow, a place to share ideas and to get word out about things that needed to be recognized (in MT, anime and gaming nonetheless). I've just started and I don't know where this is going, but I hope it will move on far and wide :)
4. A Very Potter Sequel
I've been a Starkid fan since the beginning. when the premiere date for AVPS came out, the pre-college kids ALMOST decided to do a AVPS youtube premiere party. didn't happen, and i only ended up watching it about 3 months later. Either way, it was still "totally awesome!" and worthy of being on this list. Oh and Darren Criss being on Glee also can fit in here :D
3. Harry Potter 7 pt1
The only thing more epic (Harry Potter wise) than AVPM was HP and the Deathly Hollows part 1. I have been continuously disappointed in the movies since 5 and 6 came out. 7 just save the entire movie series from losing its face. The day it premiered in Shanghai was the first time i fully went all out Harry Potter fangirl-mode. I put on my Ravenclaw tie (cuz it was the only color I had), wore a blouse and a grey sweater vest, and brought Hedwig. Silly? yes. Epic? HEEELLLLLLLLL YEAH!
2. Into the Woods and Noises Off
Noises Off was my first thespian play, having never made it till end of junior year. I can tell you that no other thespian play will never be as hellishly funny, improvisational, and insane as Noises Off was. I was honored to work with probably the best ensemble ever and finally got to work with friends I never could work with otherwise. To top 2010, nothing could have made senior year more awesome than playing one of my dream roles (Baker's Wife) in one of the greatest musicals ever. Hectic and difficult as it was, i couldn't have asked for a better play to be my last musical of high school.
1. Pre-College
Turns out I'm a CMU pre-college lover With that, this is how I see 2010 as I send its last minutes bloated with awesome food and surrounded by friends and family. Now all we have to do is wait for the chime of midnight :)
