1 Wedding + 1 Trip to Canada = 2 Crazy Weekends

Jun 30, 2008 21:05

The last two weekends have been pretty eventful (to say the least). All of it happy if you don't count the 4 1/2 hours being stuck at the Canadian border while losing the will to live... but more of that later!

First, moonpuff's wedding was on June 21st and it was a glorious affair. She looked so happy and a good time was had by all. I can't believe that we both met because of Sailormoon (or Sailor Moon if you prefer). I kid you not. You see, we both had websites dedicated to the anime... extremely silly websites. Mine was of course Troublemakers and All Things Naughty dedicated to all the villains of the show and hers, Senshi Soup was a totally crazy and original parody site and I loved it, so I emailed her and we carried on a 5 year online acquaintance. At the time she was living in Eastern Washington, when she planned on moving back to Western Washington and she mentioned her desire not to carry on working for Safeway, I referred her to the company I was working for at the time. So, the first time we actually met in person was when she came in for her first job interview at the office. Naturally she got the job and casual online pals became real-life close friends. This is was also where she would eventually meet Mr. moonpuff who was one of the computer geeks at the office although they didn't start dating until after all of us non-computer geeks had to be laid off. No matter, it's fate I tell ya... and we have sex god anime villains with long flowing hair and Sailor Hedgehog to thank for it!

This past Friday I joined romanticalgirl and b4dawn5 on the 2nd leg of their mini-road trip to follow the band Drive-By Truckers as they played their gigs in Spokane and Vancouver B.C. The band is a recent obsession of romanticalgirl's and she had planned to see them with a friend who introduced her to them but the medical gods had other ideas and b4dawn5 and I stepped in to tag along even though we both knew little of the band. Being a rock show veteran myself I figured if they were as good live as their reputation says they were, it would be a good time... and it was, despite only knowing the last song they played, a cover of The Jim Carroll Band's People Who Died. The lead guitarist, a fellow named Mike "Mother Fuckin'" Cooley practically molested our dear romanticalgirl (much to her delight) whenever he had a guitar solo. Such is the case whenever you're right at the front of the stage. The venue was tiny and the stage only went up to your knees so he was pretty much crotch level to her face... and you could not wipe the silly grin off her face the rest of the night. The next day was spent mostly waiting at the Canadian border to get back to the States. We spent an agonizing 4 1/2 hours in the car where we amused each other with trivia and facts from various magazines we had on hand, discussed the pros and cons of shaving vs. waxing, cursed Canada's lack of left-hand turn lights, and contemplated how long it would take before we resorted to cannibalism after the junk food we had ran out. Alas, we eventually got to the border security where he proceeded to interrogate us on why we were in Canada... although he seemed a lot less concerned than the gal that let us IN to Canada who wanted to know all three of our life stories. I half expected her to ask us for a 10 page essay titled "My Reasons for Wanting to Visit Your Fine Country: And No I Don't Have a Bomb in My Purse."

music, travelin', aigoo!, yay!, concerts
