You know you're an odd duck when you discover that some large percentage of the things you buy are for other people.
This entry bought to you by my need to taunt
cadhla with the seven bags of candy corn I have cleverly concealed in a bag in the entryway so
gdmusumeci doesn't eat them. (Of course, now that he knows where they *are*, I shall have to move them to another clever hiding place.)
I just finished reading a book about surviving the zombie apocalypse, and I have some thoughts about the rise of the zombie novel as reflecting our fear of societal breakdown, but they're sort of boring and cliche in writing. Meanwhile, I'm watching the guy host of "What Not to Wear" (Clinton Kelly) try to teach European manners to Americans who are *so* bad that *their own friends* have nominated them to *sleep-away* etiquette school. It's fascinatingly horrible, in the way of "how on earth could you not have known this stuff" kind of way (don't rummage through other people's living rooms without permission; food to mouth, not mouth to food; don't pick your nose at table; etc. -- this isn't just "I don't know what an asparagus fork is," this is basic "are you *two* or something?" stuff).
I'm wearing a really lovely skirt, but unfortunately, I don't think it goes with anything I own -- it's a tealy-blue patterned wrap-around floor length matte silk skirt. It's been hot here today, so even though it's cooled off outside, it's still hot and sticky inside, so I wanted something that wouldn't get all sticky. Unfortunately, I don't own anything that *goes* with it, so I don't wear it very much. I have another one in a slightly heavier silk in a shiny white with purple and lavender patterning, and I don't have anything that goes with *that* either -- thoughts?
I'm not doing so well with LJ as a communications medium recently, so if you want to talk, email or call or IM me or something -- I do *like* talking to people, and I'm on AIM every weekday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Pacific time. I'm working, so if you're twitchy about getting instant responses to your comments, send me an email! (I love letter-writing, so you could send me a real paper letter, too...)
This weekend brings a plethora of sociability -- I have unexpected friends in town from Arizona, so I'm really excited, and I have Other Secret Plans at various points. Should be fun!
