Yagyuu Hiroshi did not know what exactly he saw in a guy like Niou Masaharu.
Niou was the type of person who liked to deceive others just because he liked to. He had this somewhat sadistic nature that commanded him to get to know a person and take advantage of them. To Yagyuu, Niou appealed like someone who didn’t really tell the truth. He wasn’t someone you could read easily.
But somehow, this certain quality of the silver-haired lad appealed to Yagyuu. He liked how the boy wasn’t like those other girls who threw themselves at him. He wasn’t the type either to make bentos; that would have just been weird and absolutely queer of him to do so. He wasn’t too loud, but he could be, if he opted to.
There was just something in Niou that pulled Yagyuu in. There was something in him that intrigued Yagyuu and Yagyuu wanted to find out. And despite the fact that Yagyuu knew that this boy was just about the best liar he had met in his entire life, there was something in Niou that made Yagyuu believe him when he told him that he liked him, loved him even, for reasons that he couldn’t determine, or so it was according to Niou.
“It’s cheesy but I had to say this. Yagyuu, I don’t know why but there’s just something about you that makes me not lie. It’s weird, really. I don’t know what it is but I’m going to assume that I like you, and maybe I probably do. Maybe, I love you even. God, that sounded awkward.”
Faith is believing in something when common sense tells you not to. Common sense told Yagyuu that Niou was probably up to one of his tricks again. Common sense told Yagyuu to ignore this sort-of confession but not really a confession that came from Niou. Common sense told Yagyuu he shouldn’t believe in Niou.
But he had faith in his partner. He trusted him. That’s why they were probably the best doubles pair out there. That’s why their combination worked. It was because Yagyuu and Niou trusted each other equally. It was because they both knew that the other had something in him that made him rely and trust in the other. They didn’t know what exactly it was. Probably true friendship, or camaraderie, or plain respect for each other, or perhaps they were both queer for each other, they would never find out. It just worked.
And because of that, Yagyuu decided to take the plunge and believed in Niou’s words.
