Wow - its probably been a record time since I posted.
I've been watching the American election campaign pretty intently. Its really amusing, this time from a perspective where I feel like the tide will turn and the Democrats have a pretty good shot at winning. Basically, if they can't get Barack Obama elected, then they can't get anyone elected, and the election is rigged.
Sarah Palin is a joke. Seriously, the Slog can't get enough of her. I especially like the story that her daughter's shotgun-fiance had his MySpace page pulled down after it said that he never wanted to have kids, and that he was proud to be a "fucking redneck". And after Lieberman's speech last night, I couldn't stop laughing at how Jon Stewart has pointed out that he looks and sounds like Huckleberry Hound. I'd never seen it really, but I totally did last night. I was also blown away at how little substance was in the speeches. Okay, so the DNC wasn't exactly hard-core reality, and it was a lot of idealistic talk. But at least they mentioned the issues. Fred Thompson went off about how the economy wasn't bad at all! And Lieberman talked for 20 minutes on nothing but how he can assure Democrats that John McCain is the choice for them. Um, isn't Lieberman an Independent now, not a Democrat? Wasn't that the result of the whole gufuffle in the Connecticut election in 2006?
It's all very high drama and such. Good times. Sure you can complain that no one talks about the real issues, and that there shouldn't be so much pomp in politics, but I seriously doubt all that is going to chance in American politics. So its more fun just to accept it and laugh.
Also, if McCain somehow manages to pull out a win, I'm moving to Squamish. I will be done with America, and I'll move up in the foothills of Garibaldi, where if WWIII breaks out, I can shut down the Sea-To-Sky with a rock slide and take refuge in the wilderness with Ger!
