Sometimes...okay, a lot of the time...I wish I had a sugar daddy. Or a rich relative that died and thought I was the "only good apple in the whole rotten bunch". I've been spending WAY too much money on clothes lately, and I wish I didn't feel so guilty or broke about it. I spent over $100 when I was in Seattle, then I spent another $150 on a new dress on Friday. Plus a few weeks ago I spent another $80 on a shirt. The $80 shirt and $150 dress were the two most expensive items of clothing I have ever bought myself. I've already worn them several times each, and they're quickly becoming my go-to items when I'm having a "I don't know what to wear" day, but still, I have some sticker-shock.
What is the source of such expensive items? My new love of local disgners. Damn you living on Main Street, where all the local designers are sold. Its nothing but bad for my pocketbook. But a lot of the reason I started shopping at consignment and thrift stores in the first place was to find clothing that wasn't what everyone else had. When I shop local, I feel like I'm not only helping out local talent, but also getting a piece that only a few people have. I also grew up with the addage "If you take off 50 cents for every time you wear an item, and you wear the outfit enough times to pay for itself, its worth it". And already, my new items have a few bucks off their costs!
I've also discovered
Gravity Pope, the only good place to get pretty shoes in Vancouver. I think I may develop a shoe habit soon, since I'm also trying to stave myself off from buying these
Charles David shoes. Nordstrom has them for $10 less, so I'd get them there. They would be so pretty on my feet, and I know I'd wear them tons, because I wore my last pair of shitty Payless sandals for 3 years. The only reason I'm looking at new sandals is because my old ones, being cheap Payless shoes, are almost worn out, and definitely can't pass for dress sandals anymore. I got them for $6, so maybe I'm allowed to splurge on their replacement? Does the aforementioned addage work retroactively, wherein I earn money buy wearing an item a significantly higher amount than it was worth?
