A few weeks ago, I went to Nick's family's house, and Nick's sister Amanda started telling me about this diet she was on - the Sonoma Diet. It involved all fresh veggies and whole grains, and eliminated all sugar (read: not CARBS, sugar) from your meals. Amanda isn't a fad-diet or fad-exercise person in the slightest, so if she was happy with this, it was a huge deal. I gained about 30 pounds at least from being on the Ortho-Evra patch, weight that I'd wanted to lose for awhile. Simply going off the hormones hadn't helped much. So I decided to give it a try.
So far, its been awesome. For the first 10 days, you have to eliminate fruits all together. This is REALLY tough, but the logic is that after 10 days, your body starts craving natural instead of artificial sugars. Its totally true. I don't crave candy or soda anymore really. What I really crave is fruit smoothies. I will admit to a few "caves" on the first 10 days, but only when I went home to Seattle for a whole week. I'm sorry, but give me a chance for a chocolate milkshake, which I only get a few times a year as it is, and I'm going to cave. But I'm perfectly happy to eat this way other than that. I feel 110% better than eating really sugary foods. It does involve a hefty amount of cooking, but the meals really only take about 30 minutes to prepare, and they make 4 servings, so there are always leftovers for lunches. Plus the food tastes so damn good that its worth it. Tonight I'm having pepper-lime chicken and roasted tomato pasta. There's also a recipe for Caribbean clam chowder to try, which I'm going to have this week.
Thus far, I've lost 5 pounds, which in 2 weeks is pretty good. I'm really glad now that I'm on the diet, because I have to go back onto hormonal birth control, as my IUD rejected last week (hence the trip to Seattle, where I thought I had appendicitis, and spent awhile on Percocet!). Hopefully, since I'm going on a much lower dose of hormones than Ortho-Evra, I will be able to keep on track to getting my BMI back within the healthy range.
If anyone wants me to send them recipes, I'd be glad to!
