Credit from the Official Aiden forums for this. I didn't type it up, but it's new and awesome.

No clue if this is from a magazine or whatever.

This is Aiden’s first tour after the unexpected departure of guitarist Jake Wambold and at the first date in Manchester, LTS has a chat with wiL Francis, vocalist and now guitarist, about a new album, being on tour and the start of the next chapter in the book of Aiden.

LTS: So it’s the first day of the ‘Suffer Little Children Tour’ what can Aiden fans be expecting?

wiL: Lots of mistakes and gear malfunctions and excitement.

What do you like most about the UK?

wiL: There’s a lot of things I like about the UK, the weather, I like the rain, the cold dreary weather. I like that the drives are really short, there’s not much distance between the cities, so we don’t have to spend a lot of time, like we do in America travelling. There’s just lots of stuff that I like.

What do you not like?

wiL: Erm, I don’t like the fact that there’s no Mexican food here, there’s no good Mexican food here, which sucks. And I’m not really a fan of curry, which is your guys version of our Mexican food.

What’s the difference between audiences in the UK and audiences in the US?

wiL: There’s not really a big difference in audience, UK audiences are more off the wall, they're really passionate, they have a passion about music. That’s what I like most about this country, people are into music.

I’ve heard on the grapevine there’s a new album on the way?

wiL: There is, I’ve just got done doing my solo record, that comes out October 27th 2008, I finished that in August, then I started writing the new Aiden album, I have like 17 new Aiden songs already. So I’m gonna try and put out a double Aiden album next year. It’s defiantly gonna be next year, because we’re doing this tour, then one in America and then were gonna start recording the new album.

What can the fans expect from the new album?

wiL: Well we’re gonna bring it back old school, I mean I’ve been writing ‘Hate Culture’ the new William Control album and I’m writing the new Aiden album and I’m kinda in an angry spot again, I’m kinda really angry and really pissed and so it’s gonna be really fast and heavy.

Are you playing any new material on this tour?

wiL: We’re not doing new material but we’re playing some songs we’ve never played before live. We’re playing a song from our first record, ‘Kid Becomes The Dream’. We’re also playing the song we did for the Lost Boys film, ‘Cry Little Sister’ and some other tunes that we haven’t ever played live.

So you covered ‘Cry Little Sister’ for the new Lost Boys film, ‘Lost Boys: The Tribe’ is the film any good?

wiL: No, it’s terrible. It would have just been fine calling it something else, I don’t know why they called it Lost Boys. I mean Corey Feldman was in it, that’s cool. But its kinda a bad film, I mean, I do like it, it’s a cool cheesy B-horror flick.

What’s your favourite film then?

wiL: That’s like asking Beethoven what his favourite note is. There’s so many, I’m kinda a film junkie. I don’t really do much in my personal life, except read books and watch films, and write music, that’s pretty much all I do. My favourite film, I couldn’t say.

Okay well what films have you seen recently?

wiL: Erm what did I see recently. I saw the new Coen Brothers movie ‘Burn After Reading’. It was very good. Coen Brothers movies are always pretty bizarre. It’s like what the fuck is going on. Some dude gets hacked up with a hatchet.

A Wilhelm Scream, live in Norfolk, VA
You’ve got your new side project William Control and the new album ‘Hate Culture’ will be out October 27th, how are you going to manage with both Aiden and William Control?

wiL: I’m just gonna manage, I’m just gonna multi task and do it.

Why did Jake Wambold leave?

wiL: A number of reasons, a multitude of things, things that went on behind the scenes, things we just won’t talk about because it’s personal. But the fact remains that we want to grow as artists and be a great band. And he didn’t wanna play his guitar and practice and he’s not passionate about music like we are. Its more of a kinda bummer for him, we’re just us, it’s what we live for, it’s the only thing we can do.

This is the first tour you’ve done without him, up to now how’s it going? And what’s it been like writing and practising without him?

wiL: It’s been awesome we’ve been writing and practicing and rehearsing. It’s been amazing, for the first time, I mean usually we get together one day before the tour and run our fucking set and put all the songs we always play, we go out and do the tour and that’s it. But this time we kinda have been trying to come up with new things to do, and different songs to play and changing the set every night so we don’t play the same songs every night.

Are you still friends with him?

wiL: No, Well I don’t talk to him.

So you’ve picked up the guitar then now?

wiL: Yeah, well I’ve always played guitar. In fact I played all the guitar on the records. So he didn’t even play any of the guitar on any of the records.

So new chapter, new start?

wiL: Yeah it is. It’s a fresh start, to a new beginning. I feel as if we’re just hitting our stride and getting going and this whole thing that went down has just reconstructed the whole dynamics of the whole thing. And has opened our eyes to new possibilities and new things we can try and do and become.

What do you say to the people who’d wished you’d split up?

wiL: To them I’d say HA HA. Fuck you.

Have you got any interesting tour stories you want to share from previous tours?

wiL: Interesting tour stories, they're all interesting I mean fuck I left school when I was 14 years old and now I travel the world and play music, that’s pretty interesting. It’s a pretty cool thing to do.

Who smells the worst on tour?

wiL: I’m not at liberty to say, as it might incriminate me, but it’s not me.

Who snores the loudest?

wiL: Our merch guy Rick and our tour manager Bob. They sound like fucking chainsaws, it’s horrible, fucking diabolical.

What’s on your rider for tonight?

wiL: Water, frosted flakes, peanut butter jelly sandwiches.

Any messages for your fans?

wiL: Thank you for supporting us though thick and thin, from the beginning, its been an experience, writing songs and being just some fucking idiot punk kid from Washington to getting to play music for a living. it isn’t because I’m a great artist or we’re some great fucking band its because people support us, come to our shows and buy our merch and allow us to come back to these places and do the things we wanna do. So thanks.
