The quick rundown on Chicago:

I dropped 400 dollars in less than 5 days, something I've never done in my life, but had a blast. We stayed at a ritzy uptown hotel complete with one of those old elevators you have to slide the metal gate doors back inside of to get in to, and big plush beds and fancy bathrooms and the like. 3 nights there was totally worth it...and because we stayed uptown as opposed to downtown, our hotel cost less than a Best Western in downtown Chicago.

University of Chicago looks as I picture Hogwartz in my head, which all the more increases my desire to go there, and that in combination with it's arts program as well as the opportunity for employment in theaters in Chicago (massive) makes this my ideal place. The interview itself was not good, however, and I don't know how that will effect that turn out of my acceptance/decline. I still have 10 days, though, to fine tune my application, and I plan on utilizing all of those to the maximum.

We had many exciting dining experiences including sushi, Thai food (sitting on the floor, mind you, lacking shoes, and having a waitress make complete fun of us), Chinese dinner in Chinatown (obviously), deep pan Chicago pizza, and lots of coffee. There was a Starbucks on almost every streetcorner we passed, which we mainly utilized for their bathrooms when we got lost.

Chicago itself is beautiful...very old architecture, everything built up as opposed to out, Lake Michigan is right along the side and there are canals running through the city. Their downtown area is massive, and their uptown is more "happening" than our downtown. The city was easy to get around in...complete with a grid formation of streets which made getting lost an easy thing to solve, as well as public transportation that actually works. The busses arrived within minutes of us getting to any stops, and they drove incredibly fast, getting us across the city in a matter of ten to fifteen minutes. We mastered the "red line" of the L Trains, and felt proud of ourselves for being able to get to either end of the city without car or much of an idea as to where we were going.

We went and saw Les Mis again, this time at the "Cadillac Palace" which had one of those dome ceiling, huge fancy wall decorations, chandelliers...the kind of theater you see in movies. We also went to "Second City Improv" which is the improv troupe that started Who's Line is it Anyway type games, and also where Belushi and Martin Short got started. It was great.

All in all, the trip was a blast.

Mostly, though, it completely solidified my own personal desire to leave. Perhaps I'm trying to run from my problems...and that's entirely possible. I'm having a hard time figuring out where I am right now in life, but that's how this little rollercoaster goes, I suppose. However, whether this is about escapism or change or education, I think that leaving, at least for awhile, will do me some good. All I can do now is hope to get into the school...if not, the real decisions come. To move and work? Or to go to UNM?

Hard stuff, but I have time.

I'm also getting a new job...my mom is getting me one working either in the justice or education state system. She pointed out what I already know...retail/food, those jobs...as much as they pay the bills, I need something, especially while I'm not in school, that I'll enjoy more. She offered me a job as a correction's officer...HA, picture that. 12 bucks an hour though, so it's something to think about.
