The ROCS Composition Competition was held last night.
The winning entry was Michael Winikoff's This Is Australia.
Second Place was Leanne Daharja Veitch's Crescent Moon..
Third Place was Lynette Reville's Head On.
Judges:
- Dr Peter Campbell
- Andrew Raiskums
- Natalya Vagner.
Other pieces performed in the concert:
- David Greagg, Camina Lesbiae
- Lynette Reville, In the Morning Sun
- Alexandra Uitdenbogerd, I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
- Michael Winikoff, Three Madrigals
- Alexandra Uitdenbogerd, Who's In The Next Room?
- David Greagg, Three Sacred Motets
- Theresa Wallner, Journey of Happiness
- Philip Legge, Ave Atque Vale
Although ROCS is very small, they did a good job of most of the pieces, some of which were very challenging. It was a difficult program, and ROCS worked hard to perform a decent concert.
I'd like to say is how much I appreciate ROCS for undertaking such ventures as this competition. ROCS time and again are proving themselves willing to perform the works of young composers, try new things, and take up new challenges. This is an awesome thing to do, and I am sure that all the young (and not so young!) composers whose work was performed last night really appreciate and would like to thank ROCS for their support and encouragement.
So thanks ROCS! Thanks especially to
tigerdenbodu for her great solos, and all her work behind the scenes. Thanks to
phi1ip for his wonderful encouragement, the great idea of the Composition Competition, and for being one helluva ROCky guy!
