CUSS WORDS post mortem

CUSSWORDS went really well. I think it went extremely well considering it was the first event I have ever hosted. The prizes were (relatively) generous because we didn't have to pay for the room. We were also able to do lunch and fancy-schmancy frozen yogurt in the afternoon. The top two seeds Peter Armstrong and Marty Gabriel) finished 1 and 2 and Dave Turissini finished 3rd (He should have been second, but he was demolished by Peter in the KOH round).

The QURSH program worked out great and I think was actually a pretty fair measure of performance. Dave T got 1st in QURSH rankings (67.75/100) and Margaret Solyomi (who finished 7th overall) received the QURSH prize (highest out of the money).

I did learn one very important lesson. I cannot play and direct at the same time. This will never be an option in the future unless I have worked very closely with another director who is completely comfortable with the way I want things run and who is able to devote attention to the preparation. This is nothing disparaging about Jeremy's help, but he had a lot of personal things going on leading up to this and so was not able to concentrate his attention on this.

That being said, I finished dead ass last. 14th out of 14. I went 2-6 -365. My performance score out of 100 was a 27.62. Last in QURSH by a good 13 points. My play was mind-numbingly bad. Over the board, I couldn't concentrate. I was jumpy. Every time I heard a noise, I would jump in my seat. If I heard people whispering, I was listening to hear if they were complaining about something. Add to that some painfully bad drawing spurts. It wasn't very much fun on that front.

Everyone seemed to have good things to say about the experience and people said some exceptionally kind words about how they will miss me in the Chicago scene. Because of these two points, I really don't care about my performance. I could have not won a game and it would have been a success.

So, let's see if I can work on running something down in Asheville. First, I want to remember that I can actually play this game sometimes.
