Off to pick up my buddy and go work in my classroom for a while before Orientation this afternoon/evening. We've got three different ones: ninth grade, eighth grade, and seventh grade. The only one I **really** need to go to is seventh, for obvious reasons, but I'm going to all of them--number one, because I had a lot of those kids when they were sevvies; number two, because I rack up more than half of my seven required "building hours" for the district. Four, to be exact, because the seventh-grade orientation is two hours long. (And besides, it's never a bad thing to have a chance to meet students and parents a bit early, right?)
We should come pretty damn close to getting everything done in my classroom today. Yay! That means all I'll have to do is figure out my lesson plans for the first few days of school, and work out how my student teacher (hereafter referred to as J) is going to get all her required observations in the building taken care of. She has to observe X hours of Special Ed, Y hours of reading instruction, etc. (Why she has to observe reading instruction I'm not sure; she's going to teach math!)
I'm actually looking forward to the next couple of days--the retreat and the inservice (which we call a LID: Learning Improvement Day). It's been a lovely summer, but I think I'm ready to be back. I really do.
Ulysses ch 6 went off to beta last night, so barring major RL messes, it should post tomorrow, right on time. And tomorrow, my credit card payment should clear, so I can sign up for my screenwriting class. YAAAAAAY!!! (And, OMG.)
Okay: shoes, hair scrunchy, purse, phone, and GONE.
