The Game We Play
Pairings: Aiba Masaki/Matsumoto Jun, Ninomiya Kazunari/Sakurai Sho, Ohno Satoshi/Ikuta Toma, Tegoshi Yuuya/Masuda Takahisa
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance, Drama, AU
Summary: Four princes of JE academy were bored with their always-the-same lives. So they decided to play a game that will change their life forever.
A/N: It's a complete AU, means all the characters have different personality from their real life version. It's my challenge to see whether I can get it to work. And because I love Aiba/Jun so much I have to write something about them. In this fic, Aiba is a real jerk (but a softie at heart) and an animal lover, Jun CAN actually sing, Nino is the playboy with bitter past, Sho CAN actually draw, and Ohno is not quiet. Other than that, enjoy the story!

14 Chapter 15
Never once in his life Ryo believed in such a corny and stupid thing as love at the first sight. He thought that it’s illogical because how could one fall in love with someone instantly without knowing anything about them?
But seeing that beautiful person singing his heart out on the stage, Ryo was captivated by his voice until he couldn’t take his gaze off of that singing angel (he has to be an angel, no human could look that beautiful while singing). Ryo had to admit that he’s not as logical as he regarded himself to be.
True, Ryo has fallen in love, with that singing angel whom he barely even know, someone whose voice entranced him, someone who sang the song like there’s no tomorrow, pouring all the love he had into the song he sang. Ryo wondered who he dedicated that song to, because Ryo believed that such a beautiful person like him should have a lover already, and he felt jealousy surging within him.
He sighed. Just how stupid and cheesy he could be? What’s more, he always prided himself to be the most levelheaded in his family since Toma was clearly too oblivious, too imaginative, and too illogical.
Ryo felt someone nudged him and he ignored it. They could poke him all they want but he wasn’t going to take his eyes away from the singing angel on the stage. How beautiful his voice sounded when he hit that high note perfectly-
“Ryo-san!”
Ryo scowled as he turned to see his little brother that he hadn’t seen for more than two years, grinning at him. Ryo suddenly wanted to strangle his brother for interrupting him watching that singing angel-
Ryo’s scowl deepened when the MC congratulated contestant number 75, his amazing singing angel, for his wonderful performance and she welcomed contestant number 76, a girl with braided hair and too big glasses, to come on stage and presented her song that Ryo didn’t know and didn’t care at all.
Ryo had to close his eyes to control the burning anger flared within him or he’d really kill his sweet little brother, the ever-nice Toma, for making him missed watching that singing angel sang his song until the end.
Toma was actually amused at the numerous expressions showed on his brother’s usually stoic face. When he spotted his brother earlier ogling at Matsumoto Jun, Toma had an evil plan to interrupt his brother and actually succeeded. He began to wonder since when he had such an evil mind. Maybe he hung out with Ohno for too long.
“Are you okay, Ryo-san?” Toma had to fake his concern and tried to act as innocent as he could or his brother would really kill him if he didn’t offer at least some kind of sympathy.
Ryo opened his eyes and glared at his brother. “You should thank your lucky star that I still consider you as my brother, Toma, or you’d be dead by now.”
Toma wanted to retort that hey, he’s the cute Toma and his brother should protect him rather than threatening him, when a pair of arms enveloped him from behind in a hug. Toma knew who the owner of those arms without even looking so he smiled and turned his head slightly to greet the person behind him.
“Ohno!” Toma exclaimed happily and Ohno gave him his rare dimple smile. Toma was positively beaming, forgetting the presence of his brother. “How do you know I’m here?”
“You are hard to be missed, Toma.” Ohno replied. He then looked forward at the amused looking Ryo who eyed them with his arms crossed. “And this person is?”
Seeing that Toma was clearly unable to process anything at the moment with this Ohno still hugging him possessively let alone answering the question, Ryo took the pleasure in answering the question himself.
“I’m Nishikido Ryo, Toma’s older brother. Though our parents were divorced long ago, hence the different in our family’s name. Nice to meet you.”
“Ohno Satoshi, vice president of JE academy. Nice to meet you too.” Ohno shaked the hand Ryo offered, feeling slightly relaxed after he heard that this gorgeous person was only Toma’s brother.
“So, you are Ohno Satoshi.” Ryo said as he eyed Ohno thoroughly from head to toe, and pleased at what he saw. This Ohno obviously cared for his brother a lot, if the possessive hands he put around Toma were any indications.
“You know me?” Ohno was alarmed that Toma’s brother knew about him. Did Toma talk about him with his brother?
“Don’t look so tense.” Ryo reassured. “I did not stalk you or investigated you and my little brother here couldn’t even say your name without stuttering.” Ryo smirked when Toma blushed hearing his words. “Someone told me about you and that someone was close with Toma so he turned to be my most reliable source if I wanted to know all about my brother.”
Ohno had to remind himself that no, he’s not jealous at whoever this person who was claimed to be close to Toma. He tried not to show his displeasure so much by giving Toma’s brother a slight smile, which he hoped, didn’t turn out as a sarcastic one.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah.”
Toma looked at his brother and Ohno and shook his head. “You two are too serious. Loosen up please. This is School Festival, not Fight Festvial.”
Ryo chuckled. “Don’t worry about that Toma, I’m not starting any fight.”
“I’m glad so then.” Toma replied, still unsure.
Ryo laughed and ruffled his brother’s hair. Toma pouted and tidied his hair again.
“Well, since you obviously don’t want me to be here because I interrupt your sweet time with Ohno Satoshi-san, I’ll go for now. So see you later?”
Toma blushed at his brother’s words. Why that big-mouthed Hikaru told Ryo about him and Ohno anyway? He and Ohno were not even in a relationship! Toma groaned when his brother winked at him before he walked into the crowd, heads turning left and right, like he’s searching for someone.
“Where is he going?” Ohno asked curiously.
Toma shrugged his shoulder. “I don’t know. And I don’t care.”
“What’s with that attitude?”
“He’s teasing me! That’s just totally intolerable!”
“And you let me bullying you. Yet you didn’t seem to hate me.”
Toma’s blush deepened. “It-It’s not that I don’t hate you, I just-“
Ohno effectively stopped Toma from rambling when he leaned closer, as if he wanted to kiss him. Toma shrieked and he covered his mouth with his hands in a panic, but then he laughed when he saw Ohno’s smirk.
“You are mean!”
Ohno leaned even closer and this time he didn’t let Toma’s hands to hinder him from kissing Toma. He claimed Toma’s lips in quite a hard kiss leaving Toma breathless and limped into Ohno’s arms.
“Now that I’ve gotten you under control, let’s go. We still have a lot of things to do after all.”

Aiba already knew from long time ago that Jun was amazing. He’d seen the man singing before and from there he began to develop some feelings for Jun. But right now, when Jun was singing the song he chose on stage with all his heart poured into it, Aiba couldn’t help but to fall deeper with Jun.
And Jun dedicated that song for him and him only.
Aiba went backstage right after Jun’s performance ended to search for the boy. He run to Jun’s side immediately when he spotted Jun leaning on one of the pillar in the aula where the competition was held. He gave the pink baby’s breath that he held in his hand to Jun, in which Jun received it shyly while murmuring his thanks.
Without saying anything, Aiba grabbed Jun’s wrist and dragged him outside, Jun willingly following behind him. Aiba brought Jun to one of the emply classes near the aula since it’s a perfect place for Aiba to do his plan.
“I need to talk with you alone, I hope it is okay with you.”
Sensing Aiba’s seriousness, Jun just nodded his head and waiting for Aiba to speak. He held the bouquet in his hand tightly, nervous at what things Aiba would say to him.
Still holding onto Jun’s wrist tightly, Aiba was suddenly nervous and turned into a mute. He was not talking and he kept on staring at Jun with that intense gaze of his.
“Masaki-”
Aiba raised his hand free hand to stop Jun from talking and Jun obliged, even though he curious why Aiba was being this serious.
Aiba tightened his grip on Jun’s wrist, trying to calm his nerves. Why was it so hard to speak out his mind? He had rehearsed this speech the whole day yesterday. Yet it’s still hard for him to say it out loud.
Aiba had to remind himself to breathe though, because he felt like his lungs couldn’t function properly due to all the nervousness he was experiencing. Inhales, exhales, his mind told him but it’s really hard to do that when every time he breathed, he would also inhale Jun’s intoxicated scent mixed with the fragrance of the baby’s breath flowers that Jun held in his hand.
Aiba had dated so many people before until he lost count of it, got confessed so often until he got sick of it, but why, just saying those three simple words to Jun was a hard thing for him to do? Aiba had a lot of experience regarding dating and yet none of those experiences could help him with the problem that he’s facing right now.
Jun was so innocent, so pure, Aiba felt like he had to protect Jun from anything bad in this world, and that including him. Maybe that’s why it’s so hard for him to blurt out his confession and got it done with, because he knew that he’s not worth of having Jun.
Of course he’s not. How could he? He’s the playboy, the strict and mean student president, the rude controlling bastard (or that’s how people called him), a jerk who use a challenge as an excuse to get close to his crush just because his damn pride didn’t let him to say his true feelings to his friends that he’s attracted to Jun.
Just how a stupid and mean person like him worth to get Jun’s love?
But he loved Jun and he’s sure he could make Jun happy. That should be enough of a reason to claim Jun as his, right? Thinking that yes, it should be more than enough, Aiba opened his mouth to say something, anything, when he saw Jun looked up at him, his eyes glittering in the dark like a crystal, clear and trusting.
Aiba closed his mouth and hesitated. Was he really good enough for Jun? Could he make Jun happy? Could he make Jun to always smile all the time? Was he really worth it to get Jun?
Aiba was having a second doubt at his plan to confess. Should he really do it? He wouldn’t want to see Jun agreed to date him only to get miserable in the end. He’d hated it if he’s the cause of Jun’s misery. So Aiba thought that he shouldn’t confess after all, and he would tell Jun it was just some kind of a joke, that he just wanted to do a prank on Jun to congratulate him, and that his feelings didn’t really matter.
After he realized that he wouldn’t confess to Jun, he started to imagine his future without Jun. Well, he would still be Jun’s friend, always beside him to cheer him up, protecting him, and giving him to someone someday, someone who would be a better choice for Jun, someone who would clearly be a good partner for Jun, someone who’s not him.
Even though imagining Jun living a happy life with another person other than him hurting him so badly, Aiba tried not to think about it and gave Jun a smile instead, in which the older man returned with a blinding smile of his own.
Aiba’s heartbeat skipped a beat seeing the smile on Jun’s face and he almost blurted out his confession again to Jun even though he managed to control himself and didn’t say anything at all.
He loosened his grip on Jun’s hand but was surprised when a small hand stopped him from doing so. Aiba looked at Jun and saw the man smiling again at him, though this time Jun opened his mouth, as if wanting to say something.
Aiba didn’t really know who did say those three sacred words in the end because he just realized that he also had his mouth opened, wanting to say all the feelings buried deep inside him.
“I love you.”
