Random News Stuff
We may have our new GG picked out. At first I was a little shocked that it was a man because all the GG's we've had since I've actually cared about who's Governor General have been women. He sounds cool though, if not as personable as the last one. I agree with the news lady that knowing law will be a good thing with all the proroguing going on (though hopefully we won't be prorogued again) It doesn't really have anything to do with his becoming GG but I have to give him props for playing university level hockey and going to Cambridge (most awesome university ever).
The HST tax hit a week ago and it's already very annoying, though a lot of stores are putting on big sales to offset the cost which is nice. The anti-HST petition should be going in this summer if it isn't already in and I really hope it shuts the tax down though. If it doesn't than our government is completely undemocratic. But they promised not to put in the HST before they were elected, and look what happened, so who knows.
Norway made Al-Qaeda related arrests Why ca't people off different cultures and religions all get along? Why does Al-Qaeda have to do so much harm, especially to such a nice, peaceful country like Norway? I just hope for a better day when everyone can live in peace, even if it is overly optimistic.
This black hole is really cool. (It looks like it's blowing bubble gum.) Science definitely has its awesome moments and this is one of them. What makes it even cooler is that it seems to counter much of what I thought I knew of black holes (not that I knew much). I wonder if we'll ever be able to harness that energy?
And I'll admit to ignorance freely, but I did not know that there were places where it's still illegal to be gay. I knew homophobia was still an issue, obviously, but that you could actually go to jail? Or be killed? That makes me shake a little. It isn't right. Also, how can they say he isn't being persecuted if they're going to send him to jail for it?
Some guy who stole a tiger and some camels was arrested. Dude? He actually thought he could get away with that? didn't he think that they might be a little difficult to hide?
