Shin Angyo Onshi

Stumbled upon this manhwa by chance and it was a good coincidence as this title ROCKS! Beautiful art by Yang Kyung-Il with an engaging story by Youn In-Wan, Shin Angyo Onshi is one manhwa not to be missed. Initially I was a bit sceptical for manhwa art and storylines were not much to my liking however after reading SAO, I have a better opinion on manhwa now. =p

17 volumes in total published in Japanese and Korean, the story is set in a fictional place called Jushin in a time where demons and spirits roam free. It starts out by having short stories based on Korean folklore before entering the main story surrounding Munsu, the protagonist. This is of seinen genre therefore it may not appeal to those looking for shoujo fluff or simplistic shounen action. Scanslations were done by ETC and they did a great job translating right up to the side notes. Some may complain that the gaiden arc might be 4 volumes too long but to me, it expands more on Munsu's past though the pacing may be a bit slow.

Artwork is gorgeous with immense details (especially the final battle scenes - which seriously reminds me of Lord of the Rings. Pretty amazed by the demon designs XD) and most of the characters are bishies - handsome men and cute girls. Yang's art is somewhat similar to Obata Takeshi's and Tajima Shou's.

The plot is engrossing with many twists and suprises that had me in suspense till the end! (^o^) Stayed up till 3am just to finish it. lol. Though the ending seemed satisfying but it left me dejected. *sighs* Depressing endings ain't my type but most seinen series end like so as it deals with the harsh realities of life. I had a hard time trying to get to sleep that night while thinking about it. (>__<) Characters are fleshed out nicely though some character backgrounds are doubtful. Nearly all are tragic in nature but I felt most pity for Won Sul. (T___T) All in all, it's an interesting read and I'm hoping to see more from the duo soon! =D
