“Well?” Chinen prompted, looking up at Inoo imploringly, he and his other brothers all plied on Inoo’s bed. Inoo set his hairbrush down.
“Well what?” he asked.
“What was it like, dancing with the prince?”
“Um… He dances well. He doesn’t like to though.”
All of the ones on the bed nodded at the same time. Inoo felt an ‘and’ coming on, so he tried to change the subject.
“How was you guys’ night?” He asked. Chinen laughed and elbowed Hikaru. “Hika-chan met a noble’s son. What was his name? Ko-something.” Hikaru flushed, realizing what Chii was referring to.
“You mean Kota, don’t you?” Daiki asked. “What’s so special about him?”
Chinen giggled. “I don’t know, ask Hikaru.”
At the same time, everyone there (less Hikaru and Chinen) tilted their heads to one side. You could almost see question marks floating above them. Hikaru began looking uncomfortable.
“What happened?” Yamada finally asked, and Chinen giggled again. “You going to tell them Hika?” The smallest boy asked, the one he’d directed the question at shaking his head quickly, mouth shut tight. Chinen laughed a fourth time, lowering his voice and smirking, the others leaning close to hear his story.
“Well, I was talking to Hikaru when Kota walked by. He didn’t pay any attention to me when I asked him a question, and his head turned to follow Kota when he walked away!”
Hikaru’s face was a shade of red none of them knew was possible to turn.
“And then,” Chinen continued “When I asked him about it, he got all flustered and mumbled something about going to find Ayaki!”
Everyone tee-heed at Hikaru.
“You like him~” Yamada and Daiki said, poking him.
“D-do not!” Hikaru jumped up, blushing even more (if that was possible). Chinen and Daiki chased Hikaru around the room, poking him and chanting “You like Kota, you like Kota~” The door opened and Hikaru ran straight into their father, the king. The old man made a light “oof” sound as Chinen and Daiki bumped into him too, Yamada and Inoo laughing at them.
“Inoo, you wanted to know how I thought you were a girl, right?” The king asked once the laughing had stopped, causing the mood to turn from playful to serious. Inoo nodded. They all sat down on the bed, Inoo, Hikaru, Daiki, Yamada, and Chinen on the head of the bed, the king on the other.
“Well, since I am the king, I got first pick at the orphanage. I wanted, as you know, four princes and a princess. Bit, since they didn’t tell me who was female and who was male, I had to go by eye. It was the day before you and Chinen were getting your hair cuts, so you looked like a girl. And, again, since I am the king, the owners of the orphanage didn’t question my decision. So… Instead of four princes, I got five.”
“Didn’t you want to return me?” Inoo asked. The king looked appalled. “Surely you think better of me than that!” He said, shocked. “Of course not! I just thought that Hikaru would be at least engaged by now.”
Everyone looked over at Hikaru again, who hid his face with a pillow. “Sorry.” He squeaked. Everyone laughed.
“Alright, I have one question.” Inoo said. Everyone switched their gaze over to him. “If you went by eye, how did you think that I was the girl and not Chinen?”
“OI! Chinen yelled, attacking Inoo with a pillow, who ran away laughing. As he Inoo circled the room and tried to jump over the bed to continue the chase. Hikaru grabbed Inoo’s leg, and Inoo fell on top of him, Yamada, Daiki, and Chinen jumping on as well, creating a huge dog pile on the bed. Hikaru, who was at the bottom, tried to crawl out and onto the floor, but he ended up dragging everyone with him. They all tumbled onto the floor in a laughing heap, gasping for air. The king laughed at their antics, helping them all up.
“Bed time~” he said. The declaration was met with two protests, three “but”s, and a pout, but all of the children did as they were told.
Inoo lay in bed, thinking. He realized that he really loved his family, and that they were fine the way they were. He didn’t want a sister. Inoo resolved to tell his father that playing the princess wasn’t that bad-the media thought that there were 5 princes and then Ayaki. Inoo could go to balls and such as Ayaki, and everything else as himself. His last excuse for missing the most recent ball was that he, (Prince Inoo), was sick and couldn’t make it. That was believable enough. With that resolved, he rolled over and went to sleep.
Inoo opened his eyes slowly, blinking. A maid must have come in at some point and opened his window. To confirm his guess, clothes were lain out at the foot of his bed. He would put them on later. Getting up, he went into the bathroom, brushing his hair and teeth. Looking around, he saw no one.
That’s odd…
He went downstairs to eat breakfast, still in his pajamas. Everyone was sitting around the breakfast table, eating, Chinen whacking Hikaru on the head for something he’d said. They were being so loud that Inoo wondered how he hadn’t heard them before. He sat down with them and began eating as well, soon catching on to the conversation and joining in. Every time he wanted to tell his father about him playing the princess, he was interrupted, and it was starting to frustrate him. Finally, he clamped his hand over Hikaru’s mouth and yelled: “I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY!”
Everyone looked over at him, surprised.
“It’s about the princess thing.” Inoo said, lowering his voice a bit. “I’ve decided that-” This time, he was interrupted, not by a family member, but by a maid, coming in and saying “Someone at the door wants to see you, sir.”
The king nodded and stood up, a smile lighting up his face. “Come on boys, there’s someone you need to meet.”
They all abandoned their breakfasts and followed him out of the room, curious as to what the king was talking about. He opened the door. Standing there was a tall, official-looking lady, next to her a teenage girl. She was about Inoo’s height, size, and weight, with black hair permed to be curly, about the length of Inoo’s hair. She was in a pretty sundress and had a flower clip in her hair. She smiled at them, waving slightly.
“Say hello to your new sister, Princess Ayaki.”
C/N: I won't spoil anything about the story, (because I've already read all of it, muwahahahahaa) but... UGH. I hate this character. She...she's... you'll see. I hope I didn't mess anything up. @_@
ENJOY~
