Halloween countdown film challenge 20 - 24

Oct 27, 2011 15:26

Been very busy, so not a lot of time to do this writing up business, and even now I aint got much so here goes.

Saturday watched The Skeleton Key. and another suggestion from Manuela (it's no wonder that bird never sleeps) A deep south haunted house film with some voodoo and witchcraft thrown in.  Stonking performances from Kate Hudson and the always amazing John Hurt. This film gets creepier and creepier throughout, rather than shock, jump, aaargh. Stylish film.

Now on Sunday, I'd settled in to watch a film from ex Backstreet work colleague Lianne Adams. The Last House on the Left, and . . . . . .  turned it off! Couldn't watch it. Too gross, and because of the extreme content, too uncomfortable to watch. Horrible fucking film.

But since I said I wanted to cover all kinds of horror, I had to choose at least one psycho killer, slash n gore film, so went with The Collector - as suggested by Dave Moss. Ok, this was disgusting, yes. Horrific, yes. Gorey, oh Hell yes. But also very clever and compelling. Some proper OMG-where's the cushion-intense moments. Great "ugh" ending too.

Monday night and as this list isn't complete without some werewolves and vampires, we watched the classic and awesome American Werewolf in London. Years since I've seen this beauty, and I honestly can't remember who said I should see this, and I'd have to trawl through a few weeks of facebook updates to find out - and I can't be arsed. Props to whoever. This is still one of the best werewolf films ever made, I reckon.

More tomorrow :) bye xxx
