I'm curious - how much of a Pink Floyd song were you planning to use? I assume it went beyond fair use, which is generally more than a sentence worth? I ask this because of my liberal use of quotes in some of my writing.
Sounds like your interview went such that maybe it is just as well it won't run, because if the interviewers were confused by terms and meanings, it might well confuse the listeners.
I hope they study up before your live podcast in February

I did contact an intellectual rights attorney to ask that very question, and she opined that the small amount I was intending to use fell under "de minimis" and did not legally require the permission of the artist.
But...
• I like Pink Floyd and the song was a major turning point in my life, so I'd prefer to do this upfront with their OK on it; and
• Having an attorney's opinion backing me would not necessarily have reassured a publisher. I'm a previously unpublished author and have no clout, and publishers are apparently very leery on the subject.
And I, too, was thinking a second interview in February might go better because from their interaction with me on Thursday they should have a clearer picture of me and less confusion.
I think the questions the two hosts asked were indicative of the level of understanding of the average person about genderqueerness, and so the bit of confusion and reiteration and repeated questions would perhaps have been helpful in having the audience understand the issues. But yes, a second interview might go more smoothly if the hosts take advantage of the information they gleaned from the first interview in shaping the second interview.
