After decades during which the only folks who'd ever heard of genderqueer besides genderqueer folk themselves were gay, lesbian, bisexual, or trans, there is now more and more newspaper, magazine, and TV coverage of it as a social phenomenon.

I think the individual narratives of personal experience begin to add up, and eventually the general public see them as valid, as more than a singular phenomena, and that is what you are seeing now. The mainstream press, the ones who have thoughtful editors and writers, tend to look for more than the singular - at least, non-tabloid, non-Fix-like press does. So now, as more individuals are telling their stories, and those stories are reported; now that stories are being told within TV shows and movies of characters who are gender queer, the general press, and the general public become more aware that it is not just the rare, singular individual who experiences it. It is a larger group of individuals, with their individual stories that have made that happen. And that is where your story is very important, because it is not only witnessing your individual experience, in a very thoughtful way, it is adding to the overall group's experience, and that makes it more real to the average person.
