It'd be nice to be able to breathe properly, if only for a while

I had asthma as a kid, which was bad enough to the point that I really didn't play organized sports between about the 5th and 10th grades. Since I got to adulthood, it flares up on occasion, turning an ordinary cold into something worse, but the last time I had real issues with it was about ten years ago.

Most often, it's exercise induced, and these days, most of the time, that just translates to not being able to breathe properly when playing sports. I'm somewhat convinced that that has played some role in me being the fatass that I am, but I don't know if that's just making an excuse or not.

For the most part though, over the past few years, I've been pretty fortunate in that, though I have asthma inhalers, I haven't had to use them very often. That hasn't been the case the last 5 days or so. Beginning Thursday night, when I went to play ultimate frisbee (indoors!), I'ev been struggling to breathe properly. It's not bad enough that I need to go see a doctor, I don't think, although, I'm pretty reluctant to take that step under most circumstances. But it is bad enough, especially when mixed in with a cat allergy that got triggered when visiting friends on Saturday, that I spent most of Sunday in misery, and didn't make it in to work today, either. Somehow, "not being able to breathe right", and "sleeping" don't work together well.

Given the looming deadline, and overwhelming mountains of work still before me, I'm trying to get stuff done from home, but that translated to waking up at a normal time, working for a couple of hours, and then taking a nap, because I was already pre-exhausted. And then, too, being annoyed by the single monitor setup I have at home, which doesn't allow for the nice shuffling of windows that's possible when you have two monitors, as I do at work.

One other thing I've discovered, when you don't have to rely on a medication that often, it's less imperative that you know exactly where that medication is at any given time. I know I have a couple of inhalers of more recent vintage, but I'll be darned if I could tell you where they are. And I really don't have that big of an apartment. I've been making do with an inhaler that's got an expiration date of 2008, and it's doing the job, but at the rate I've been using it, I might need to locate one of the other ones soon.

In addition, I might possibly need to trip out to a store tonight to replenish my cough drop store. Not that they've been particularly effective at suppressing the irritation in my lungs/throat that's making me cough, but I'm thinking that will change, eventually, and it'd be nice to have the tools available when the conditions turn more favorable.
