Nah. In my world, such things are done using den den mushi -- machinery hooked up to telepathic snails.

Right. You can send pictures, and the really huge ones can receive video feed.

With colorful snails, yes. A little less sophisticated than these admittedly.

They're handy. Easy upkeep and all that.

Aye. The comms aren't so bad, but they tends to demand usage instead of vice versa. And then shock you if you don't use them enough.
