The image was an illusion. It may have been an individual illusion, an illusion that changes depending on the viewer, or a composite based off all of our memories of others that the ones who control this town somehow know.
The other explanation...if it is true, my subjects....my people, have been taken from me and my world.
...and furthermore, they may have had their will taken from them, along with their memories.
If a god's followers no longer recognize her, what is she?
