"Never After" is a collection of 4 novellas about "fairy tale" weddings of princesses. The book, overall, is very entertaining. The only novella that I did not enjoy was Yasmine Galenorn's "The Shadow of Mist" and even for that I would blame myself rather than the writer. The story is about a selkie and selkies are not my cup of tea. Sharon Shinn's "The Wrong Bridegroom" is interesting but not Shinn's best work. Marjorie M. Liu's "The Tangleroot Place" came as a pleasant surprise. This was my first exposure to this writer and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The heroine in the story turned out to be one of the most likeable princesses in fantasy.
The greatest surprise in the book for me was Laurell K. Hamilton's "Can He Bake a Cherry Pie". Laurell K. Hamilton is famous for her slightly erotic vampire stories. I don't like vampire fiction and I don't like erotica in fantasy so I have never touched a Laurell Hamilton book till now. But this story, with its delicate touch, light humour and sensitivity floored me. Lovely. Simply lovely.
