My birthday was actually really good. I went to Bourges for shopping (I decided that I would allow myself to spend money on clothes, which I don't do very often, but ended up buying books instead...), then had a good dinner, and met some people in a bar to watch the rugby match (which I ended up unable to see because of the crowds, but that was ok with me. I had a good time observing people's reactions). It was France vs England in the semifinals, and a couple of the girls there were English, and were worried about their safety when England won. But, there were no problems, and we stayed in that bar quite a long time after the match. The next day, my actual birthday, the assistants from Vierzon and I wandered lazily around Bourges until the afternoon train back home. It was a very nice day.

Lessons have continued to go well this past week, with more introductions and lessons on the differences between American and French school systems. Next week will be my first week with 13 hours of lessons by myself. Scary. But, I'm pretty excited about it. I'm doing a Halloween theme, using the song "Werewolves of London." I hope it goes well!

This weekend has been pretty good, too. Friday night, I went with the Uruguayan assistant to a wine tasting. I was expecting something bigger when he invited me, but it ended up just being a in a small-ish wine shop, with just the owner, his 10 year-old son, and his friend who works next door. Yet, it was much less awkward than it could've been. Last night, though, was wonderful. Three of us went to a concert. The first half was a kind of a pop punk group that had just won a local battle of the bands. The second half, though, was a group that I studied in my high school French class. As improbable as it sounds, it is a French celtic rap group called Manau. And, they were awesome! Here is the video for their most popular song, "La Tribu de Dana," but it's very, very serious looking. But really, they were super fun! I don't really know what happened to the other two guys, but last night it was just the rapper and a backup band (with pre-recorded beats, and no scratch), and they were really silly and fun. Every French person I've ever told that I listen to Manau has made fun of me, but there were a bunch of people there (though, they can't be too popular if they can't fill the whole little theater in Vierzon...), of all age groups. And I'm a little in love with the rapper (I want him to meet my husband the bassist!) and the female piper. (tryoliancorsair, can they come to our party? The rapper jumps around a lot and I would really enjoy seeing him jump around with Curt Wild).

being awkward, music, vierzon, teaching, yay!, adventures
