Vito Perriello was one of the incredible people who I had the pleasure and honor of knowing while I was in Virginia. His son, Tom, was our candidate. He and his wife, Linda, welcomed me with open arms and a homecooked meal when I arrived, befuddled and dazed, in Charlottesville, my first day in the Commonwealth. My first thought when I met him was how much he reminded me of my late grandfather, Bill Simon.
Vito died today.
The man who worked as a well-known and virtually universally loved pediatrician for 40 years. Who delivered and watched grow two generations of Charlottesvillians.
He was a warm, quiet, kind man. And a few days ago he had a stroke. And then tonight, we got word that he had finally passed.
It makes me feel sad, and far away from my Virginia family.
