Hey everyone,
I just wanted to say hi, and let you all know I'm still alive down in Ol' Virginia (although I've had the song "The Lees of Old Virginia" from 1776 in my head for a good week now). Haven't been killed by rednecks or the Klan. People here are friendly -- it seems small-town midwest and small-town south have a lot more in common than you'd expect.
I'm in the lovely cuidad of Bedford, Virginia. I'm responsible for Bedford and Campbell counties. It's a big job.
I love this job. It's insane, and the hours are prohibiitively demanding on anyone who isn't completely without significant personal relationships (i.e. everyone on the campaign except the field director is single, and that's only because he had a wife and kids beforehand). But the positive upshot of it is that I get to help get an AMAZING man elected to Congress. Where he'll work to do the kind of positive changes in government that will create positive changes in all our lives... the kind of changes that we need. Call it cliche. I don't care. It's true.
I've been called a "Kool-Aid drinker" recently by a friend that I've made here. It's strange to think that six weeks ago, I had barely heard of our candidate, and now I'm making plans to go in to the non-profit sector if this whole Congressional thing doesn't work out. It's crazy.
Good times. Leave comments, tell me how you all are. I miss you all. :-)
Love,
Katie
