You can look Anywhere but Directly Backwards

Last weekend I took a trip up to Seattle to visit with the usual crowd of Robert, Heather, Jessica, and Chris. Loren Thor was also in the City and it was a pleasure seeing him without warning and being introduced to his girlfriend Tegan. Friday night, a group of us went to see a concert of works by the modernist composer George Crumb, which was excellent for the most part. People were polite and those who hated it left quickly. On the way to the bathroom I saw two indignant parents dragging their kids outside to leave, and one of the little girls begged them to stay because she liked it so much! If just one school aged kid can enjoy prepared piano and the glass harmonica, then I have a degree of faith in next generation.
Later that night Loren and Thor had their hair cut and I drank an entire jug of Carlo Rossi sangria, leaving me incapacitated and morose the next morning. That was at least partially cured by seeing “Thank You for Smoking” which was a very amusing satire of Washington lobbyists. Later that day we went to a twenty-first birthday celebration for Heather’s roommate Justin at an Indian restaurant on Capitol Hill. The happy hour special was three dollar well drinks with a free appetizer, which I would have heartily taken advantage of, had it been for my lack of funds and the persistence of my hangover. Afterwards we played Life (the board game) at a friend of Tegan’s. I went with Jessica back to her dorm and we watched Rushmore together since she hadn’t seen a Wes Anderson movie before.
I saw my sister briefly on Sunday, before leaving for Vancouver later in the evening with Bryan. We stopped by Winnie’s apartment to drop her off before going home.

I have moved pretty much everything I need into Guy and Travis’s apartment except for my computer and desk and I spent my first night there yesterday evening. I really enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the city, and I am really glad that I moved into that area, at least temporarily. I am coming to realize that I’m realy and urban person at heart. I enjoy apartments, high-rises, city sounds, and walking to wherever you need to go. Just from my small time at the apartment, I have gotten a more cosmopolitan sense of Portland (which is much less of a city than NYC, San Francisco, or even Seattle), since I can pretty much walk or bike to where-ever I need to go, except Clark College, which is not really a bad bus ride since the #6 bus takes you all the way up to Downtown Vancouver.
