4. “Anybody with basic knowledge of finance or economics will tell you that people act differently when they have an asset that they can claim as their own and pass to their children as they would with private savings accounts.” The savings rate in America is currently the lowest since the Depression. (http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.asp?feed=AP&Date=20060130&ID=5458922), yet Americans are spending more and more using credit. Please go back and review your history books: decreased savings + increased spending = everyone calling in debts simultaneously => THE GREAT DEPRESSION.

5. As for ending poverty, examples from all over the world show that the only true way to stop cycles of impoverished people is through education and other social programs like public health care. I have read the Constitution, and as Courtney already mentioned the Establishment Clause I don’t feel I have to reiterate that point. I will, however, state this: the Constitution says that any charter or treaty signed by the US must be upheld as the “supreme law of the land,” (Article VI clause 2). This obviously includes the UN Charter. The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (signed in 1948) states: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care, necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control (Article 25).

So please, step off your soapbox, get off your high horse, and put your foot in your mouth, you elitist prick.

Just to mention, I don't think Tom or I have called anyone names or put any direct attacks on someone's character into our arguments. That is extremely immature and uncalled-for.

I used uneducated as Courtney used it above. She said america is uneducated and I proved that you are the ones. Uneducated is not calling someone a name either. It means they have not learned something yet. Thank You.

Okay, first of all, I didn't say America was uneducated. I said that most of Americans are dolts. Clearly there are some educated people in this country, especially since we are having such a heated debate. People can be intelligent and still make stupid choices.

And just because we have different views than yours and don't meticulously study tax revenues, don't say that we are the uneducated ones.

I think you read a little too far into Tom's comment, he was commenting on everyone previously venting on the "dumb and ignorant Americans" in the posts above.

And for my own edification, I'm absolutely NOT conservative. I just enjoy arguing. And I don't enjoy name-calling.

EDIT: So please, step off your soapbox, get off your high horse, and put your foot in your mouth.

Happy?

Good. It was against my better judgement to resort to petty name-calling, but you know, sometimes people just get caught up in the heat of the moment...

This will be the last post I make in a while. Please try and attempt to read the posts and not just rant for pages. I said savings accounts create assets that cause people to act differently. People who go into debt has nothing to do with this. I have no idea nor does anybody else I've talked to about what you just said about this. I am aware that the U.S. has the worst savings rate in the world. Creating a savings account that they can't touch such as a social security account would not let them touch this investment. And it would actually grow. A savings account will only encourage people to save. So I'm not quite understanding you...read more carefully next time. And please learn about the depression economics. Increased spending creates more cash flow movement and more people touching this money and spending it=GDP growth. So basically, everyone go back and actually read the economic facts I provided and don't try and explain to me something you don't understand and think is a myth. P.S. Have you ever taken a econ class? And were you happy when Bush said abortions have gone down in the U.S.? That is a honest question I would like to know.

One of the primary assumptions that you are operating under is that all pro-choice people out there are just itching to give and get abortions. This assumption is wrong. It's a good thing that there are fewer abortions out there, which means that maybe there are fewer unwanted pregnancies. But what you also have to understand is that in certain states, a woman would have to travel hundreds of miles to get such a service or the procedure is too expensive and she can't afford it. What President Bush did not talk about is how many illegal abortions are occurring. And don't think that they aren't happening, because their number is on the rise. Girls who are douching with bleach or having their boyfriends repeatedly hit them in the stomach until they miscarry is becoming a more common occurrence. And if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade (which hopefully they won't), these illegal abortions will continue.

And it was made clear in my original post how I feel about Bush's comment on the fall of the teenage pregnancy rate so I'm not even about to go into that right now. At least, not before I eat breakfast.

I agree that I have never taken an econ class in the context you discuss, but that does not mean I am uneducated. I have taken several classes on the global economy, so excuse me for not giving in to the propaganda-filled Hayworth College of Business. I also intend on going to Graduate School to get my PhD is global political economics.
If you are so concerned about being "educated" why don't you look outside a textbook for once? Read the international press, or you know - talk to an impoverished person, or a black person, or a woman who had an abortion...
Furthermore, is is common knowledge that history is subjective, and written to the benefit of the "winners" - the same can be said about economics in America. There is the same problem with textbook publishers as we currently have with the US media - there are only 6 companies that control the publication of a VAST majority of textbooks. Since the CEOs of those companies undoubtedly profit more from Republican policies (in addition to their already exploitative practices against their workers), I very well doubt they would allow the publishing of anything opposing those fiscal practices.

As for your comment about abortion, I think my sentiments can best be expressed by quoting you: "Please do not speak about something you have no idea about." Since you are a fan of being intellectual and educated here is some more information from an UNBIASED source. Just the facts. (http://www.prb.org/Template.cfm?Section=PRB&template=/Content/ContentGroups/05_Articles/Abortion_in_the_United_States_and_the_World.htm)

And you will not be grinning when your 15-year-old daughter dies from using a wire hanger to preform her own illegal abortion when she gets pregnant - all because she didn't know how to use a condom and her school practices abstinence-only "sex education."
