Oh, I am not disputing that--they could just do to be a couple of inches longer. (It's a real...thing of mine, trouser length. I get way too hung up on it.)

The only possible explanation for this is that the trews cost £300,000 and the stylists don't want them to come into contact with a football. Cos otherwise, peg-leg kecks with no socks, or with socks that are exactly the same colour as his skin... WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.

This is a possibility, yes. Otherwise, as you say, what were they thinking. Those kecks are not even just a bit too short, they are WAY too short. (I don't think I've ever seen kecks written down before, somehow I always mentally heard it with an x, hmm. *still not completely Northern*)
