I liked Dessena's hair, actually. I mean, I can think of people who definitely need a hair cut more than he does.

I have to admit, I'm a bit embarassed about the US's performance in the three games (let's pretend I watched the CI game). When I saw the roster I kinda figured it wouldn't be spectacular, but still, we could have at least gotten a point. BUT maybe now people will underestimate us at the Olympics and put out weaker teams and we will COMPLETELY DOMINATE because Mikey will be there. And then a final with Italy so we can have a throwdown with Rossi.

The volume is impressive, but I still think he and Golloppa would look great with a nice, reasonable crop. *grin*

Well, they left a ton of Olympians behind, right? Edu and Jozy, obviously, and I'm sure there were tons I don't know about b/c I don't know enough about the US U-23s. (Where was Freddie? Benifica are done, what's his excuse?)

Yeah, this was basically a C-team. Maybe 2 or 3 of these guys will actually go to the Olympics- Seitz, Hill, and possibly Valentin since we're a bit short on defense. Some of the guys (and pics because I'm bored and love to spread the hottness that is the USMNT) (Michael Bradley, Freddy Adu, Jonathan Spector, and Maurice Edu) were called up for the full NT camp in England. The MLS guys (Eddie Gaven, Sacha Kljestan, Robbie Rogers, Stuart Holden, Jozy Altidore, and probably more that I can't think of right now) are with their clubs since US Soccer doesn't want to piss off the MLS coaches by stealing their players when they'll already be stolen for the Olympics. And then there are other people who are just chillin', I guess. But yeah, that wasn't exactly our Olympic team. Plus, the 3 overage players.

Ahhhhh, the European-based boys are with the full NT, that explains a lot -- I was wondering where they were! And I'm very glad Jozy got to stay, since he as the one saving grace of today's awful RBNY match, but man alive losing those guys is going to HURT. How long will they be gone? A whole month? *shakes head in dismay* (God, and it's so funny that I know some of these guys mostly through fic -- I'm sure they'd be so proud.)

Is there any word on who the overage players will be? Did I hear an McBride rumor?!

Jozy is the only NYRB player I like. The rest? Ick, esp. JPA and Old Man Reyna, who are double ick. I'm pretty sure they'll be gone a month, since I'm assuming they'll have a pre-Beijing camp where they scrimmage college teams, MLS reserve teams, etc. so they have some games together (Mikey hasn't ever played with the U-23s but is basically a lock for a call-up), and then they'll train in Beijing, so at least a month. Possibly more, depending on how far they get. (I love USMNT fic. I mean, I may be partial since that's basically all I write, but it's just so good. It seems to be immune to the badfic disease. And part of me wonders if they read it. (Actually, I wrote a ficlet about it...*facepalm*) They know about the Big Soccer Hottest USMNT thread, so they may know ( ... )

I love JPA, I liked him at Villa and think he's class. Reyna drives me NUTS, though, I cannot stand that they're spending DP spot on him. (Where's Bradley supposed to go this summer? Elsewhere in Europe or to MLS?)(LOL I actually love your fic -- I'm way more into it than I am the actual team, and 95% of what I know about the younger members of the NT team is from you. No pressure. *grin*) (I alway wonder if footballers read our fic -- surely SOME of them have comprehensive google alerts set up for their names, right? How can they NOT know?)

Oh wow, Howard would be huge! Do you have any thoughts on how the US will do @ the Olympics? What's a reasonable expectation for this team, do you think?

(Mikey will definitely NOT be going to the MLS. He's far too good for that, no offense to the league. Everton were supposedly the frontrunners, but now it's supposedly Boro (which I don't want- if he's going to a lower club in England, I want it to be Sunderland so at least he'll be learning from Roy Keane), but I've heard about West Ham, Werder Bremen, Blackburn, Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Sunderland. I really hope he goes to Everton.) (Thanks! *blushes* Hopefully they'll be adorably slashy again sometime soon so I can stop writing about the U-20 WC from last year. I'm kinda stuck on it.)

Before the groups were given out, I think getting out of the group was almost expected. But since we basically got the group of death, it'll be a lot harder to get out of the group. I think we can do it, though. Maybe not winning the group, but advancing to the knockout round would be great. After that it'll just depend on who we end up facing (please not Argentina), but getting out of the group seems fairly reasonable.
