ROMA 2 - 1 EMPOLI

Fresh from the derby defeat to Lazio, Roma hosted Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday and defeated the guests 2-1 with only 10 men since the dismissal of Simone Perrotta around the 60th minute. Small-but-oh-so-terrible Seba Giovinco was really the only thing Empoli got going for them, hitting the bar and scoring their only goal. Overall, it was an uneventful and uninspiring match [which absolutely has nothing to do with the absences of Mexes and Aquilani], save Totti's backheel to set-up Tonetto's opener and Panucci's shirt-tearing header [and subsequent celebration as pictured below] that sealed the win.

Roma are now within 4 of the league leaders, in case that headline hasn't already made it crystal clear.

Both of our first-choice CB's sat this one out. Juan's injured, Mexes is suspended, so Matty had to start.

He saved us from drawing. Phew.

Totti showing off his battle wounds from the derby. [knee bandages X2]

Way to show support, tifosi.

I jest. Maybe they were away on Easter holiday.

Capi was at the centre of the attack, creating all the plays as usual

And getting his goods molested upon

Enemy just got bitchslapped

Oh yeah, Spal finally realized that Taddei hasn't been playing to his ~potential~ [I'm being politically correct], so Giuly started on the right wing.

Karate chops

Handball!

lol sleeves

ball control

Yes, it rained, the boys were drenched and were wearing white shorts. I got my glasses on now, thanks.

Right, so on with Fra's trademark back-heeling. You'll see this about 40 times within a Roma match. They like to be fancy with the passing, those Romans.

So Max passed to Fra, made the run to the box, Fra backheeled back to Tonetto before Max finally fired into the goal for the opener.

RETE!

"Look, my hair and my eyes match!"

LOL what's Ferrari doing upfront anyway? *headdesk* SPAL!

Damn, both our CB's are upfront. Who's left in the backline?!

Anyway, Max scored. It was extra special since he's the only Romanista whose name has yet to appear on the scoresheet this season; that is, until Saturday's goal. Now everyone's scored. Talk about team effort. ♥

Pretty pretty eyes

Three guesses who's leaving Roma in the summer transfer window.

You see Ferrari and Amantino in the background, not even caring about the goal? There's your answer.

Who cares? These ones do. The whores. Save that for the dressing room, damn.

Capi whispering his thanks to the scorer

Panucci will get his, you just wait.

He's excited, he's just in pain, Capi.

...or sleepy.

...which is understandable. I was watching this match with one eye closed.

Oh, the joy ain't over.

"I'm on the scoresheet, I'm on the scoresheet!"

Amantino looks like he's about to be-head Max

Or something.

Max ran and threw his body on the ground. Daniele and Simone started a (Ro)manpile.

Whilst Ludo got groped.

Ludo: *checks if he put on deodorant*

Daniele smells something

It was busy on the left wing post-goal, with Max's confidence soaring after he scored.

He also helped out with the defense

Daniele...

...was extra aggro. Sssh don't tell anyone.

It's good to see him back, he was invisible in the derby. Was he even there?

There's the DDR we know.

Boy's been shot.

Ooh ooh, turf burns *runs to fetch the moisturizer*

Aw, look, elf-lets

*sigh* Someone hasn't been getting enough sleep.

Mirko was a-mazing and played fearlessly.

Wet Montenegrin, y'all

He came on for Ludo some 10 minutes after the restart and immediately sped up the offense

Giuly was so-so, nothing spectacular or anything

And he's growing a man-beard

Wet Frenchie

On the opposite flank, you got Amantino, who started [he was benched in the derby]

He wasn't up to par, I don't know. Of course I was half asleep watching this match, it was so boring, but he wasn't playing with the same stamina as before.

Psst, Luciano. Remember that talk we had about playing RBs on the right and LBs on the left? You brought your compass today? OK, good.

I found my Best Dressed awardee.

Spal didn't forget his compass today and played the right-back on the right, and the left-backs on the left. This is me jumping up and down in jubilation.

Marco Cassetti and that Bert [of Sesame Street fame] haircut.

With 30 minutes left on the clock, and still tied at 1-1, Simone got a straight red.

"You're kidding, right!?"

Ref: This way to the dressing room. Now beat it.
Simone: BUT... BUT!

It was a harsh straight red. That was a yellow, loud and clear.

Shame since Perrotta was being livelier than usual and was paying attention to receive his passes.

Aquilani was serving a suspension, so Pizarro started.

Yeah he couldn't do anything about elf-ling, who was the fastest thing you ever saw this side of the planet.

Spal took Pizza off to make way for Brighi.

More Pizarro-Giovinco match-ups

And yes, both are 5'4". *puts them in my pocket*

Panucci had to help out with handling the little elf-ling

So elf-ling Giovinco scored, which was expected, since he's been threatening the Roma defense since he set foot on the turf. But Panucci and his magical heading abilities put Roma back on top, 2-1.

ROMA 2-1!

Look how excited Amantino is.

The boys were extra aggro. All that pent-up energy leftover from the derby is finally making its way to the surface.

Daniele wouldn't let go. Watch what happens to Panucci's shirt.

Do you see DDR's deathgrip on that jersey?!

*shakes head* Well that shirt never stood a chance.

Yeah, they're really into tugging on each other's clothing.

Enemy: Savages.

Oh, those jugulars *sits self down*

ROFFLES Mirko

Oi Mirko, it was Panucci who scored, not De Rossi. But go on, hug away.

Is Mirko squeezing his eyes shut? Oh, the love.

PANUCCI IS IN PAIN! You boys let him breathe.

Casetti ♥♥♥

Panucci just got giallo'd right before his goal, so he was mad about that plus overjoyed about scoring; hence the "ZOMGZ"-ness of it all.

Really feeling it.

"34, BITCHES! Who you calling old?"

All his goals this season have been headers. It's his specialty.

Smug like woah ♥

He be wanting to give an upper cut to that ref who just giallo'd him.

Panucci has a really weird way of blowing kisses.

...He only uses one finger?

"Can I still rock the wet look?"

Yeah, get a new shirt on, then we'll talk, Christian.

Meanwhile, wassup Mirko. [Everyone in the team got haircuts.]

"Someone, sew up my pits!"

Sometimes I just can't tell if Amantino is happy or mad.

Dedicating his goal to the Curva Sud

Yes, Daniele, there are only two people in the stands. Disappointing, I know.

Towards the end, Fra was clutching his calves and limped off as Rosella cringed in the stands.

:{

But for now, Roma trail by four. Relish it, Romanisti. While it lasts...

Thanks for the photos, A! ♥

Up next are Cagliari on Saturday-- away. Roma will be missing DDR, Vucinic and Perrotta all on bans. The good news is Aquilani and Mexes both return from suspension.

Also, eight days from today, April First will be celebrated hosting the Red Devils for the first leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals. Hopefully, Roma won't be making fools of themselves...
